Totally worth it!'

Of course that's assuming that Sony actually plans to use this. And that it's legally allowed to stop reselling in this fashion in every market it intends to sell in, not something I'm sure of.

But yeah, it's about as sane as the 720 will be 'download only' with no disc games.

Seriously, if either of them do it I'll just go buy a WiiU and fuck 'em both.

Its still not set in stone that Sony will actually implement this new patent with the PS4. Lets hope it was just them patenting the idea and not going forward with it (but why did they go there at all?).

I read this as 'Crysis 3' not coming to Wii U due to lack of Nintendo being EA's prison bitch regarding their online system. Seriously, EA needs to get the fuck over themselves and quit being whiny because Nintendo turned down their outright absurd offer to help with their online component... on the condition that it run Origin, and that EA completely, 100% owned every portion of their online system.
To be fair, they would love Crysis 3 on the Wii U. Its just that EA and Nintendo didn't reach any agreements over who would pay for the port and then who would sell & promote it.

I'm not liking how companies believe this industry is going to change. Used games made unplayable, digital only consoles and games full of micro-transactions?
Getting fed up with the gaming industry as of late. It's a right farce. Developers never seem to care about any of the above, you know the people who like to make games, not profit off of every single thing that can be milked. Online passes are bad enough, nevermind this.

Reminds me when that Xbox document leaked on how to get people hooked on games.
Let me just tell you, 'fun' wasn't a word found in the entire document.

On topic of the Wii U however, my boyfriend got one for Christmas and I had a go over the holidays. It's not amazing but I'm impressed with it so far. Finally a Nintendo console in HD, games look beautiful on it too. Really looking forward to Scribblenauts Unlimited and Pikmin 3 when they're out. <3

Digital taking over is just to be expected, same as in music and as is happening in movies.

Companies like Gamestop are to blame for some of the excessive things going on in the video game industry. I don't believe anyone has ever made a push for trading in movies or music like gamestop does games, and the second hand prices for music albums and movies compared to new versions are significantly cheaper than second hand games compared to new versions (in the 80s/90s the second hand market for games was much lower also, Gamestop and co changed this). Gamestops policy of not restocking certain titles after a few months so they can rely purely on second hand trade in and sales is something I've never seen done with movies or music.

I expect video games to make the digital transition much faster than movies and music, because the industry really needs it to more.

Not this generation though. There are simply not enough people, even in America, Japan and Europe, with a connected console to make it a smart move. Even when people have a solid enough connection to download 2-10 gig of game not everyone has it connected, such as consoles outside a main room. And even if it means they've lost 20% of there potential market, that's not something they can afford.

Of course, it hasn't been helped by the fact that digital is often more expensive to buy than a retail copy...

With every game that comes out at £50-£60 on PSN. HAHA. No thanks.

Retail games also released on PSN/XBL cost more because publishers still need to bend a knee to retail, as digital sales grow there will be a point where publishers can afford to stand up to retail and price as they see fit. Games that do not have a retail release tend to be better priced already.

Well, the new Nintendo Direct was packed with info!

                Highlights include:
                - OS performance upgrades coming in spring and summer
                - Wii U Virtual Console starting up soon with a Trial Campaign, one game every month up until the official launch for 30 cents each to celebrate 30 years since the Famicom released
                - Reduced price to upgrade games you already have on Wii Virtual Console to take advantage of Wii U specific features ($1 for NES games, $1.50 for SNES)
                - New Virtual Console categories unreleased on Wii or 3DS, showed only Gameboy Advance (I don't count the Ambassador games for this)
                - Miiverse smartphone functionality coming, first as a web-based experience but with a smartphone app in the works
                - Info on games like The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, Game & Wario, Wii Fit U, etc.
                - First screenshots from Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS coming at E3

                New Game Announcements:
                - A new 3D Mario game (to be shown in playable form at E3)
                - A new Mario Kart (to be shown in playable form at E3)
                - Yoshi Yarn (working title from the creators of Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story)
                - Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem
                - The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
                - A new Wii U Legend of Zelda
                - A new Monolith Soft game (creators of Xenoblade Chronicles, looks beautiful)

I dunno about you guys, but that SMTxFE sounds amazing, and the Monolith Soft game looks incredible too. Interested to see how the Yoshi Yarn game turns out, especially if it's as fun as Island and Story were.

Pay to unlock games already owned...

Nintendo should have swallowed that cost or at the very most made a small one off charge to unlock your entire library for £8. I know someone that would be looking at about £60 from NES/SNES alone, nevermind when the others turn up.

Yeah, that's the only thing that kinda threw me off, but besides that I think this was an awesome show. There's a lot to be excited about.

It delivered towards the end. Ninty just needed 10-15 minutes to redeem itself from the fluff that we got the first 15-20 minutes and all the crap they showed the last 2 E3's.

                      I mean look at this:

                      X (Xenoblade/Xenogears by Monolith)

^^^ That is what Square-Enix should've delivered this gen.

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD - a remake with enhanced visuals and more importantly, reworked gameplay.

Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem - A big surprise. Crazy cross-over. But it makes sense. Atlus is not a n00b when it comes to SRPG's.

The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 - we knew about them, but it was sweet to see more of those games (a behind the scenes video when it came to Bayo).

Great stuff. Can't wait for the 3DS Nintendo direct.

EDIT: The Yoshi game looked great too.

Nintendo played E3 way too safe and only had a few titles worth showing any interest :/

Seeing them do yet ANOTHER port of Wind Waker really made me cringe.

They need to put out a few new IPs for the WiiU instead of just sequels and ports.

If they had put out at least 1 new IP, something original that isn't related to any other of their franchises, they would have gotten a little less backlash and showed that they were at least trying.I mean hell, if it was a title that was 'rated T' even, that'd be an even bigger surprise.

Everyone has played Nintendo's titles already. Nobody looking for surprises cares. Remember when Nintendo made new and original titles and criticised others for just doing sequels?

No wonder they didn't do a conference, the less people know they are creatively dead the better.

jeez i guess Wrathborne wasn't kidding when he said there were a lot of nintendo bashers on this forum.

i dont see the problem actually, i usually look at games from a "if it aint broken DONT fix it" type perspective. so i still dont understand the complaints over rehashing franchises to be honest. (being resident evil fans i can imagine this fandom would know all too well why changing a franchise too much can potentially hurt it...)

im really eager to get Super Mario 3D World for 2 reasons. 1, for the first time we actually have a 3D mario game that can go co-op. and 2, (more interestingly) it has the 4-characters each with different traits. Mario is the balanced one, Luigi is the high jumper, Toad is the fast runner, & Peach can fucking float. it brings back fond memories of SMB2. plus i finally get to see princess peach with a fire flower (which for some reason i find very amusing)

sure they are just pumping out sequels, but i don't see anything wrong with that. :/
