So many things have gone wrong with this game it's unbelievable. It seems to have a more troubled production history than Alien 3.

This game is a awful clusterfuck, but sadly it's canon...

No. No. No. Gearbox may say that and even 20th Century Fox may have signed off on the script for a chunk of dough but no one is gonna take this story seriously. If they ever do another Alien film no filmmaker is gonna work their story around ACM. This game will be quietly forgotten about very quickly.

We only have Gearbox and Randy Pitchford's word about the whole canon thing anyway. 20th Century Fox seem to be completely silent on the matter. And all Gearbox and Pitchford have done throughout this game's production is lie to us.

That plus things happen in this game which makes certain things in Alien 3 and Resurrection impossible. It's like ORC in that regard because certain things just do not and cannot possibly fit.

It's not canon. That whole statement from Gearbox put them on a very slippery slope with the fan base. It was a cheap selling point that has backfired drastically.

Thats the worst thing about it really. There was a great chance to write something with the same setup that actually did fit perfectly well in the canon and make Alien 3 and Resurrection all the better, but outside of nice little references to the Aliens film the whole thing is about as hollow as the gameplay itself. Shame.

I could have dealed with a mediocre game is the story was absolutetly amazing and did itself well in the atmosphere of the film that inspired it... problem with ACM is it fails on all accounts.

It's Gear Box's fault. They outsourced to TimeGate Studios and apparently they deleted a bunch of Gear-Box's assets, changed the story around, replaced the AI, and wrote their own engine.. That should teach people never to outsource..

Words can't describe how pissed I am about this. Could we not open a class action law-suit against them for false advertising? Technically we could as it was not the product we were promised. Shit, I want all $100 back now.

I think some feel that way because we have been denied a great alien(s) film since 1986. (Alien 3 wasn't watchable until 1999/2000). Either way, its been a very long time since we had a good film/story based on that series.

But in regards to your point... the story would need to be incredibly good for anyone to endure playing a game like ACM. Said game's gameplay that doesn't even qualify as being mediocre (talking about the campaign here). The gameplay is just horrid.

So thank sweet Jesus that there wasn't such a great story attached to this undercooked turkey of a game. That would've been a tragedy.

Oh trust me, I am not saying ACM was even close to passable in the game sense but just that I am personally okay with mildly passable gameplay in games with good stories. Thus why I ended with ACM failing on all accounts because I don't think it had even that, and if a great story had been attached to that gameplay I would indeed considered it a tragic.

My question now is where can anyone go to make a major title in this licence anymore? After AVP 2010 and now ACM the possible good will of possible purchasers is all but gone. I know after getting burned on both I won't buy another at launch ever.

All movies, comics, novels, video games etc are meant to be canon in the Aliens universe, which is shared with Predator one.

                  This is according to Fox.

And people complain about Resident Evil's canon.

No offense to SEGA but the IP needs to be with another company that gives a fucking damn about it.

The funny thing is that Fox seems to be one of those companies that doesn't give a damn.

Yeah a few times a new movie has come out and completely screwed stuff over meaning it needed be edited in future releases. Originally was a three part series that starred Hicks, Newt and later Ripley, after Alien 3 released they were changed to new characters name Wilks and Billie, and Ripley turned into an experimental synthetic (she didn't even know she was one, used red dye for the white internal fluid).

Alien R did the great job of claiming the Aliens were wiped out in Alien 3 (which I guess ACM also conflicts with), despite the fact that by the time Alien R happens Earth was at one point overrun, as well as hundreds of bugworlds being known. One book tries to explain this by introducing a virus that spreads through synthetics and is meant to have wiped most records of human history from databanks across hundreds of colonies.

...yeah, a mess. I cannot even imagine how Prometheus is meant to fit in, it conflicts with pretty much everything. First time movies have conflicted with eacother heavily too, Prometheus doesn't fit with Alien or AvP1/2.

Apparently on Reddit they're talking about stuff like:

"Believe it or not, all the good parts of Aliens: Colonial Marines from the promo videos are supposedly from the silent-as-a-fart-in-a-dark-room Wii U version of the game, which is supposedly the definitive version of the title and is on indefinite hold. The post above purports that there may be a PC patch to upscale the gimped PC version to equal parity (or above parity) to the Wii U version, but there's nothing concrete to verify that this patch will arrive"

I call bullshit on that. People just refuse to accept what we got. But there it is.

My hope is that the IP ends up with Kaz:

I've grown to really love Alien 3 over the years and can accept Hick's demise, in a weird way it's sort of realistic. Didn't always feel that way though, especially when I heard about the early Alien 3 concepts, the wooden planet, the monks etc. I just hated it for being weird and un-Alien. But now I feel it's quite interesting.. The workprint cut was pretty awesome in a way - it's almost like RE 1.5 and RE2, same same but different

I really, really don't understand how people could think for one second this game could eventually turn into something good.

The demo was so much better than the final game. But it already looked inferior to AvP2010, an already very average game released 3 years ago.

Sorry to say that, but some people are really too naive...
