    PlayStation 4 Announced!



    Official Name: PS4 / PlayStation 4

    Release date: Holiday 2013

    Specs: x86 XPU with an enhanced PC GPU and 8GB of on board GDDR5 memory. With a local hard drive. PS4 also features a secondary chip that handles all downloading, which means PS4 titles will be playable as they're being digitally downloaded

    Controller: Dualshock 4



    The controller features a touchpad in the middle, a "share" button, a headphone jack, and a light bar that will track movement with a PlayStation Move-style controller.

    A "Mind-Reading" Console: The PS4 will learn a gamer's behavior and guess what they're going to buy. Then the machine will download those games even before you've purchased them, and you can sample them before actually spending the money.

    Gaikai Revolution: The integration of the Gaikai streaming service is really a game-changer. For instance, we'll be able to find anything in the PlayStation Store and with the simple press of a button, the game or media will immediately start playing. Furthermore, we'll be able to pick up where we left off; going back to our game won't have to involve turning the system back on, booting the game up, etc.

    No native PS3 backwards compatibility Sony's new console will utilize the PlayStation Cloud and be able to stream games from the last three generations of PlayStation consoles. Sony wants gamers to be able to stream "everything ever" released, although no titles were revealed during the presentation. We do know that services will be rolled out over time for the Cloud.

    Remote Play on Vita: The PS4 will also let gamers play remotely on the PlayStation Vita. The Gaikai technology means this will involve "reduced transmission times" so the gameplay will be fast and immediate. For instance, Mark Cerny's Knack, the first game unveiled for Sony's new console, was shown running on the Vita.

    So no mention of the whole, 'You can't buy second hand games', 'Advert pop ups in game' or 'You have to download all games' bullshit rumours?

          It doesn't look bad at all, but I'm done with buying consoles on release date. I'll wait for the redesign on 2014 LOL.
          Games look great though. Hopefully gameplay will be at par with the eye candy.

          Interesting features there by Sony. I want to see how Microsoft will play next now that Wii U and PS4 are out.

            this is interesting! i thought it was a SDK...

            its weird because they must run a pc version, in Direct X or Open GL (linux?)...

                    Not too blown away sadly. It's all about games for me, will couldn't care for all the social stuff, but and sadly apart from Watchdogs I'm none too fussed yet.

                    Still hopeful it'll be good for though.

                      so when are we gonna be able to use multiple screens on consoles? oh yeah - never. the best thing this was probably the controller... though, sadly - still containing the same basic design from almost 20 years ago.... otherwise, its specs are nothin' to be proud of.

                      too bad id still rather have it on PC, since its the lead platform, like Battlefield 3 was.

                        A lot of interesting stuff but nothing that really blows me away, well except for Sony keeping the same controller design for two decades now. Why they insist on that is a damn mistery to me.

                              Thank god they didn't block used games, it's my livelihood, not all people can afford to buy new videogames you know !
