Played a bunch of the Snes ones, loved FF6, I fucking loathe FF7.

Its overrated, boring, and the characters just didn't appeal to me. Not going to deny the shocking moment when Areis Dies wasn't something unique in a game...but I didn't like anything about the game. After FF7 came out, all the other games all just kind of look the same to me...Nice graphics, shitty stories and stupid characters.

Especially the last 3 and their sequels.13 looked like a bad star Wars rip off when I saw the early trailers, I didn't bother to play the game because I didn't see anything that stood out.

Last FF game I played that I can say I still love to this day, is FF tactics. Its a work of art...even with the bad translation.

FF1 - Completed. Fantastic and simple. I adore the battle system and jobs.

FF2 - Dislike the levelling system, didn't complete.

FF3 - Hard. I like it but it lacks soul. Haven't completed.

FF4 - Completed. Love 4, the characters are likeable but I got annoyed with Spoiler:

I enjoyed that everyone had a role, but the original SNES version annoyed me with pre-set characters for the final dungeon.
Oh and the last boss was annoying for me. Spoiler:

FF5 - Possibly my favourite battle system in the entire series, the job system is perfect. I love the customization of this title, alone it is one of my favourite but unfortunately, haven't completed it yet. I got up to Krile, need to replay. From what I'm aware, the story was just another recap of "oh no, save the world."

FF6 - Completed. -Perfection- Haha. It's my favourite game, Terra is my favourite FF protagonist and I adore the Esper system - as well as the story, I thought just about everything (to me, personally) was perfect with 6. It is my all-time favourite game. From the entire cast to the gameplay and being the last classic Final Fantasy, It's amazing to me. Kefka is easily my favourite villain as well, twisted and complete evil. Also best song in the series - Dancing Mad.

FF7 - Completed. Likeable cast, feels like it misses at some points but the Materia system is beautiful. (Also, just realizing how varied the systems were in each game).
FF7 is like, I understand it is amazing but it just never caught on as being near my favourite in the series based on story and gameplay, the music is amazing though.

FF8 - Playing now - I've seen my brother complete it, I think the draw system is OK. The GF's are easily the best part and junctioning magic feels great when you become stronger on that alone. xD The story is a bit naff. But everything else is okay. Feels really short to me - and story doesn't seem as fleshed out as I remember.

FF9 - Completed. I love the systems of FF9, this has to be my 'perfect' 3D Final Fantasy. The entire cast is interesting and loveable, learning abilities from items was also a peculier system I enjoyed very much. Thought that Spoiler:

FF10 - Completed. Can't remember anything of it.

FF11 - Yawn. I loved the idea but when I got to playing I just found it tedious and completely uninteresting with uninteresting battle systems and characters.

FF12 - Same for FF11, except the offline edition.

FF13 - Never completed, got to Chapter 11. Not as bad as everyone says - drama is a bit bad though - Lightning isn't too bad of a character but Tetsuya Nomura shoving her in everyones face for three games is annoying. Vanille is easily my favourite character, thought the battle system was decent (a lot more interesting than 11 and 12 anyway...) Either way, poor game in the series - but not the worst.

I would rate my highest as probably...

        6 - 9 - 5 - 4

        And my worst...

        13 - 2 - 11 - 12

And of course, don't click on spoiler tags if you haven't played them.
        Sorry for hefty post.

Kefka's tower in 6 was freaking awesome despite having to use 3 parties it wasn't anything complex. Although it did suck having to level up and learn magic for EVERY CHARACTER but suprisingly it didn't take very long all I had to do was teach ultima to a few characters and make sure all the mages had Life1-3 and Cure 1-3. Some of the bosses were challenging but Kefka was surprisingly easier then the bosses leading up to him.

Only beat ff7, and under protest because I couldn't bear looking at top tens list's from people, and not being able to say I've played their #1 pick. I loved it though, which kind of surprised me because I try to refrain from playing games with overly "magic fairy adventure" motifs (as was my perception of most rpgs at the time). Luckily for me ff7 had some very modern, real life elements that kind of offset the more traditional 'fantasy' elements. Currently I'm going through Crisis Core on the PSP - it is pretty funny (yuffie).

I'm a very big FF fan actually! The ones I've played. Bolded games have been played to completion.

FFI: The GBA version, and this is a basic but fun start to the series. It's pretty bland in terms of RPGs but I appreciate it for still managing to be fun and engaging.

FFII: Also from the GBA cart I&II: Dawn of Souls, I really did enjoy this one. The leveling system that takes so much flak felt fresh to me, allowing you to build however you wanted to, and where you wanted your strengths and weaknesses to be.

FFIII: The DS version (aka, the remake of the real FFIII). As stated above, it's by no means a bad game, but it definitely has the iconic NES difficulty from that era. It can be frustrating, but the battle system is streamlined and easy to get into, and the introduction of the job system is always a bonus.

FFIV: Both the Japanese fan-translated SNES version (because the American version was gimped) and the DS remake. My second favorite in the series, with a strong (if a bit cliché) story, beautiful visuals, and the introduction of the Active Time Battle system. The cast of characters was also very fun to watch too.

FFV: The Japanese fan-translated SNES version. This is the pinnacle of the job system if you ask me, and my favorite in the series. The world is fun to explore, the job system is top notch, and the villain is one of my favorites for one reason: He doesn't care if he deletes all of existence, he's gonna do it anyway. Why? Well... because. Total chaos, why not?

FFVI: Didn't end up beating this one, thought it was pretty fun though. I don't remember exactly how far I got, but I was playing on ZSNES with a friend (as with FFIV and V, relax I have physical copies of FFII and III US ) and we sort of let it die. Wasn't bad, in fact was quite good, but just didn't capture me like IV or V did.

FFVII: I'll start by saying this game was very good for its time. Revolutionary even. However, while I enjoyed it, it has definitely become a little rough around the edges. The gameplay is still nice and all, but the game just hasn't aged well in my opinion.

FFVIII: I loved FFVIII but after getting stuck at a point in the second disc, I meant to train and grind, but never got around to it and as such haven't finished it. The Draw and Junction systems are very different and fresh, and much like FFII I really like the different choices Square made. They keep the series from getting stale.

FFIX: While I enjoyed IX, I just could not keep focused on it for some reason. Dunno why, but it was fun but it just never kept my attention for very long. Some of the best music in the series though!

FFX: Another high point for the series. The sphere grid leveling system once again lets you customize how you wanna build your team, and the option to choose how you want to build your Overdrive meter in so many ways really let you customize your play style. The story was awesome too.

FFX-2: For as much hate as this game gets, I once again must say I enjoyed it. The dress sphere system is a strange but fun combination of the FFV job system and the FFX sphere grid, so that was always cool. Also, Lady Luck outfit.

FFXII: Oh my god I couldn't stand this game. I played for a good five or so hours before I just forced myself to stop. I tried to keep telling myself it would get better but it just didn't. Vaan's completely retarded and his total (very underage) boner for sky pirates was completely annoying. Also, the fact that he literally becomes a side character the moment Ashe joins the party is just stupid.

FFXIII: I got very close to the end of the game and for some reason just never finished it. I plan on doing so though, the game was hella fun. The Crystarium system is essentially a mostly linear sphere grid (more like a sphere line really) but the paradigm shift was a nice way to change classes mid-battle. Although I'll admit, the game isn't perfect. I do wish I was able to control my team members, and an instant game over if Lightning dies is silly. Apart from that, loved the game.

I played all the Famicom and NES games. I also played all the PS1 games. IMO The best ones are the originals. I honestly thought seven was "meh" at best. Not worthy of all the praise IMO. I liked X and X-2, but they weren't great. I never tried any of the other installments as I don't like the way the games have been going.

I forgot about X-2. Possibly another one of the best battle systems in the series, the job system in X-2 was great as well.
And I love Yuna. Her less closed personality was a nice change from good-girl Yuna in X. I am gonna replay X and X-2 when that HD collection comes out, I am so excited for it. Considering I can't remember anything from X.

FF - Only played the PSOne remake. Basic but fun.
FF 2 - Loved the utterly broken combat system. Recommended if you like Romancing Saga- games.
                      FF-3 Never played.
                      FF IV Classic.
FF V Got to play it on the PSOne and liked it pretty much for the battle system.
FF VI The culmnination of 16-bit RPG goodness.
---- I love the PS1-games but the battle system in them is so slow and drags on forever....------------------------------
FF VII No one who ever played this first in 1997 would ever call this overrrated. It is an overwhelming blend between art, music and philosophy.
FF VIII Thought it was great as well. The junction system was a bit repetitve but that is the nature of FF games, I guess.
FF IX I always thought that this was the closest thing to a direct FF IV- sequel there is - in a good way.
FFX It is essentially the same as the former games minus the art, minus the great music and even more linear than the NES versions. The voices are the most retarded thing there is, and this comes from an RE1 fan. This game would have benefitted so much from sticking with prerendered backgrounds. Instead you walk straight ahead in the most uninspiring lopoly world you can imagine. Started the decline of the series. Battle system was very good, however.
FFX-2 This game should have never been made regardless how good the combat system is.
                      FFXI Never played.
FFXII Is essentially the same as FFX. Boring lopoly world, boring music and to top it of they killed the combat system. And this one is definitely TOO long. However, this one had quite decent characters ( with strange accents but I thought that made them more interesting) and a more streamlined plot about war and succession.
FXIII Last FF I bought. Played it until I saw a cutscene with chocobos. That made me realize how deeply this series had fallen.

Played it first in 1997, thought it was overrated then, and I think its highly overrated now. Philosophy? if you seriously think that I'm afraid its an invitation to lots and lots of sarcastic scrutiny. -_-

XIII-2 destroyed my love for the series. Story was a convoluted mess, and the ending was a complete disappointment. Whoever wrote that piece of shit either needs to get his act together or resign, stat.

VII and IX as far as I remember, besides some of the soundtrack work nothing much to write home about. I actually liked VI a lot but could never defeat the final tower. Oh and VIII. Similar situation.

I started playing NES games a bit late. I started in the early 90's. And while everyone had moved on to the SNES, Genesis/Megadrive, I was still trying to catch up playing NES games.

One of the first games I played was this bad boy here:

I played like the first hour and it was pure bliss. Then I learned that that first hour of play was merely the freakin' prologue. I was pleasantly surprised. Because most NES games I've played until that time, were very short.

Played several games since. But I have to say that the art direction from the PS2 editions & Square targeting the J-Pop crowd was a major turn off for me. This trend of S-E going after a different (much, much younger & mostly female) crowd is more apparent in the latest efforts they put forward.

EDIT: And then there's the whole bestiality/furries deal:

So I've lost interest in the series. But I still think its one of the best out there. Just not for me.

EDIT: To be fair I stopped playing JRPG's quite a while ago. And only regained interest recently with what Mistwalker did on Wii and the Dragon Quest series on DS.
