  • Arkham Origins

As a long time Batman and big Arkham series fan I was wondering what other peoples thoughts are on the recently announced Arkham Origins game (the prequel to the first two Arkham Games).

It worries me that RockSteady are not producing the game and instead it's being made by Warner Brothers. Also the fact that Kevin Conroy has been dropped in favor of a new, younger voice actor isn't something I wanted to hear, I'm hoping that they'll be going for someone who sounds like Conroy.
It'd be interesting to know what other villains will be making an appearance since only Black Mask, Dead Shot and The Penguin have been officially confirmed. I never thought Black Mask would make it as a main villain in the current Batman series but it's refreshing to know that lesser know villains are being used, I'm hoping Mad Hatter will make a return and wishing that we might get appearances from Scarface and the Ventriloquist, Ratcatcher, Maxie Zeus or the Clock King.

Kinda worried to be honest, with that many people from the previous two gone. I wanted a sequel. Does this mean we have to wait for the next gen for "Gotham City" or whatever with all those Arkham City sequel hints?

I suppose with the way Arkham City ended it's going to take something amazing to follow in it's footsteps, I suspect thats why they wanted to test someone else being a main villain before they decided on the future of the games

They have a good formula going on, I don't see how they could mess it up, just put some new fun abilities and it'll be great. The writting on the other hand could be improved.

I'm hoping it isn't Rocksteady because they are busy working on an actual sequel, likely next gen.

Wasn't a fan of Arkham City's open environment, thought the enclosed one of Asylum worked much better, looking forward more to the Vita Metroidvania Batman Origins game than the console game.

Not interested really...I didn't like Arkham Citys story as it felt too big, but too
small.Hard to explain I know, but it just felt really off too me, and I really loved Arkham Asylums story.

I'd say the worst thing about this game already, is that A: Paul Dini(writer of the games and 90's animated series),Kevin Conroy, and Mark Hamil wont be returning and B: Its a prequel. Fuck prequels.

A prequel is a very delicate type of story to tell, because everything about the rest of the series is riding on it. Most prequels are done so poorly its becoming a warning sign when one is announced.

Honestly I didn't care for the way the story was told in the 2nd one. Everything was bigger and it meant the narrative was spread further, instead of being you and the Joker in the Asylum facing off, that worked much better despite the anti climax. Which I guess they both have in some ways.

I think the games have to grow each time to be honest to be able to expand the batman world. The first game was amazing when it was set in the Asylum and the area was quite vast for locations however it would feel a little boring if every game was just stuck in a single location, it needs to expand and grow each time

That's not really my point, the bigger area is fine, but the story was so broken up and had no focus. I was spending so much time running about with side quests despite supposedly dying from poison. It drained away the atmosphere somehow. This isn't really that critical when the game was still good though, I just prefer it... the Asylum felt creepier.

I do agree that there could have been more structure to the side quests as opposed to them just being so random and everywhere at once, I always thought that they should have had the main story play out to the end then once it was over sort of say that there was more crime to be sorted before Arkham City was closed down then you could work through the side quests and collectibles as you wanted
