  • Parody World: Monster Party (Famicom) to soon see a release

When I was a child, Monster Party on the NES was one of my favorite video games. The first type of "Survival Horror" game I've played so to speak. The game was freaky and bloody as hell! Fast forward to 2011, when I first heard about a prototype cart being purchased of the Famicom version of the game, I was overjoyed! (I myself was around in the Emulation community when Earthbound Zero was first found and dumped, and that started my thrill of people releasing prototype carts.) However, when the Japanese owner only posted the first level then proclaimed he would never release the ROM and would take it to his grave, I was devastated that I would never see the original game. Now, it has re-surfaced again, and it was sold to someone who wishes to release the game for all to enjoy, and for that I am very thankful.

Some quotes from the new owner:

"You guys are going to shit your pants when you see what we've been missing out on. I have no doubt at this point that the game went unreleased due to copy write infringement and no other reason. Every boss in the game is recognizable from your favorite 80's films."

"Mark just finished the playthrough, and I can not only confirm that the game is complete, but there are noticably differences found in every single level of the game. Not little differences, BIG differences in every level."

Was monitoring that one while it was up on eBay. It's not the same cart as the other/previously known one (content might be identical; most likely).

Yeah, there were a bunch of screenshots uploaded to photobucket and 4 or 5 videos posted from the buyer, and it all looks identical to the content in the videos from the 2011 prototype, so it appears to be the same build. The 2011 guy also said his build played to the very end, 100% complete, and this new copy likewise plays 100% to the end.

The new buyer says there are massive big changes in each level, bosses, normal enemies, and even layouts in the levels. He says most of the bosses are copyrighted horror villains from the 1980s, and the game is so much more fun and cooler than the USA release. I'm really looking forward to this, as much as I played the USA version as a kid.

Never had much of a relationship to this one, but seeing this one crossed off ye olde grail list feels good.

Not many so called grails left from the 8-bit era now (Sim City and any evt. test cartridges for Hellraiser are the only high profile ones I can think of for NES right now)

There were magazine scans of an early version of A Nightmare On Elm Street for NES that was totally different than the final game (nothing at all the same) where you played as Freddy himself killing teenagers. It's obvious why that was scrapped. Don't have any idea if it will ever show up.

"The rom will be made public within the year (Hopefully a great deal sooner). Let me make my money, and then the freeloaders can have ride." - The current owner of the Parody World: Monster Party game.

He's making repro carts for both NES and Famicom of the prototype, and once all of those are sold and shipped out, he will release the ROM for everyone. Understandable, as he paid $3500 for the prototype cart, and wants to get some money back. As he owns the cart, it's very generous he would release a standalone ROM image, in his own words "I've already agreed to release an unaltered rom, for free, after spending $3,500! You do realize that I could simply buy the game, rub my balls on it, and put it on my shelf, right? Just like the owner of the other prototype has already done before me..."
