  • ^Good call...I forgot to mention the voice acting. It's stellar.

The QTE interaction is also nicely done.

I want to pay the full-price admission for this title, to support what the developers are trying to achieve, but I am also fairly destitute at the moment thanks to college. Hence my concern for dropping $60 on a game that wouldn't have much replay value.

Still, I am a sucker for a rich, engrossing narrative... (which makes it odd that I am so fond of the RE franchise, which is at the other end of the story-telling spectrum)

Guys you need to play Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. Heavy Rain is supposed to be it's spiritual successor.

      • ^ I played the demo for Indigo Prophecy, really liked it. They actually are quite similar, now that I think about it...

        • Famitsu Review Score: 10/10/9/8

          - One play is about 10 hours. If you want to finish all the game' scenarios it's 30 hours.
          - Innovative control and fabulous story
          - You can really immerse your emotion, especially if you have kids.
          - Lots of branching in the story
          - Top notch atmosphere
          - Keeps you want to continue playing
          - You can also sense fear

Anyway...I played the demo, and it is very entertaining. I really didn't know what to expect, especially since I've avoided a lot of information for fear of spoilers.

But I've never played anything like this. It's easy to succumb to the feeling of being "in" the game world. The characters feel very realistic, and the graphics are pretty phenomenal (though I don't know how they'll age, when I think about the future of animation).

I expect a strong narrative that sucks you into the lives of the 4 protagonists. The mature theme is promising indeed; I just hope the story is actually really good beyond my hype.

My only concern is the replayability/fun factor/tilt. Mainly if the level of interaction will be worthwhile beyond a single playthrough (once the excitement of "newness" wears off).

            Guess I'm cautiously optimistic.
I wasn't trying to be funny. But I don't care either way.

In the meantime, I enjoyed Indigo Prophecy. But Christ, toothbrushing? You didn't do things as inane as that in Indigo, and if you did, it wasn't required or it always lead to a bigger event.

Bottom line, it's really just an interactive movie. But that's alright. They can make good games with some interesting controls. Besides, I still don't have a PS3.

Keep at it, Sony. You'll look worth buying when you have more games that appeal to me. Until then, you have:

            • That is possibly one of the most idiotic and overused statements I've ever heard.

              • It is overused. But I'm serious.

I see nothing worth making me buy this console except for a select few, like MGS4 and LGB.

                • It has a shit-ton of games. You my not like them, but that doesn't mean they do not exist.

                  • About its only good games are exclusives. All their multi-plat games are inferior to both PC and Xbox. Do they exist, yes, but are they worth mentioning? No. This is what I mean.

Then we have to dissect the exclusives, and pick out what's good. In the end, you're left with a couple dozen good games. Out of these, a few interest me.

                    But hey, that's just me.

Nobody fucking cares what your personal preferences are concerning consoles...you're wasting everyone's time in this thread. Your comments amount to nothing more than troll bait, trying to incite some sort of console fanboy flame war. What are you, 12 years old?

Take your PS3 -vs- Xbox -vs- PC bullshit elsewhere.

Everyone else is here to discuss the merits of Heavy Rain.

                        • The thread's name is "Thoughts on Heavy Rain", not "Merits of Heavy Rain." The thread is fully open to putting my their own opinion down on the game.

In all honesty, I'm disappointed thus far. I don't think I'd pay 60 dollars for this at the moment.

The rest is shit, I know. Sorry for even posting that.

                          • Well, after playing the demo, though, I never needed a demo to know what to expect, all I can say is, I think anyone interested in this game needs to help support it by shelling out for it's full price tag within the next couple of months. That's really only been my worry about this game--not the actual quality since I already expected a great and well-polished game from David Cage and co. But in a industry where people complain and moan about there not being something new, original, or different, well--money talks and bullshit walks I say.

I have zero hesitation in paying for a game that will deliver a cutting edge experience like no other out there, even if it is possibly short on replay value(though the Famitsu guys mention 30hrs total for exploring every possiblity?). After all, I bought a PS3 SOLELY for MGS4. Almost 500 bucks all together. That game is short on replayability in all honesty, but that one-of-a-kind experience, to witness the last arch in the story of Solid Snake, is kind of a hard thing to really put a price tag on. (Only regret is that I didn't have an HDTV at the time )

So anyways, yeah, I'm getting HR day one. It's going to be great. I hope the Quantic Dream and Sony partership is here to stay.

                            • So be it. I would've done the same thing for BioShock 2, which would make me a hypocrite.

Indigo Prophecy was great. I guess I can expect more from the same company, but I still have my doubts.

In the meantime, I wonder what content Australia or even the ESRB are going to be complaining about now. I wouldn't be surprised if it's censored upon release.

I agree. It didn't take a lot to convince me to buy this game because I had been thinking of what, say, SNATCHER would look like in a next-gen interface. Pure narrative, pure adventure, some aesthetic familiarities (I mentioned the Silence of the Lambs like music in another thread, plus Twin Peaks is the first thing that comes to mind in terms of the tone and interaction between characters), and an all around memorable experience. While it may not be a NOVEL experience to me, it's certainly a different one these days and I say an exceedingly welcome one.
