I had mixed feelings about this game. I really liked a lot of things I'd read about it but I was also worried that I wouldn't like it. I'm not a fan of QTEs (in fact I usually HATE them), so hearing that the majority of 'gameplay' is ALL QTEs, had me thinking this might not be my thing.
Yesterday I downloaded the huge 1.7gb demo.
Things didn't start well. I failed the required button presses 5 times before I was able to move past the first obstacle; squeezing by a dumpster blocking my way. I thought, "I'm gonna f**king HATE this!".
But after that, I really enjoyed it. It looks like a pretty amazing game. The QTEs (after that first one) worked well. The fight scene was great! I really liked how, unlike say, the knife fight with Krauser from RE4, a failed button prompt didn't result in "You are Dead/Game over" but instead, it changed the length of the battle and the sequence of events. And the amount of little details and objects that can be interacted with made things very interesting.
I liked the slow pace and the gloomy atmosphere and I could see myself really getting into it.
The story looks good. I'd really love a horror game in a similar style. But with the current state of survival horror ('action horror' and FPS hybrids are all we seem to be getting nowadays), this looks like something very different and worthwhile.
All the reviews I've read have made the game sound fantastic. I'm pretty sure this will be my next purchase (and soon!).
