    • Takin' me a quick break. I'd say I'm about half-way through the game, or something like that.

I guess you didn't realize I beat Uncharted 2 in one 12 hour sitting. Heavy Rain is supposedly around 10 or so. Ever since MGS4, I've really developed a taste for playing games I really care about in one full go. It makes it feel all the more epic, like some gigantic box office movie.

Nemmywontdie is right, though I don't think HR falls into the more extreme MGS4, RE5 category. More like UC2.

As for me, I'd really really love to get the game right now but I can't take the hit financially. God of War III is more important at this point, and Heavy Rain I can get at any point over the summer or fall when/if it drops in price, and I actually have a job to support my hobby. Right now, I'm at school and I'm not working, so cashflow is a bit of an issue.
Yes, I was happily surprised too to see how many on my friends list have the game. HR might really turn out to surprise everyone in the sales department. Who knows.

And yeah, if you're planning on buying a full-priced video game after God of War, I'm think I'd lean and say this is a must buy, but I'll wait to get more specific after I finish the game. But you're not alone. Jill's Boob, for whatever silly reason, has limited funds, and yet bought LittleBigPlanet off E-bay. He's regretting it very much right now.

The game is absolutely beautiful. I didn't want to watch too many trailers or videos before I got the game...nor did I even want to play the demo. So glad I held off. Graphically...has to be one of the best games I've ever seen. The voice acting is pretty good too. Definitely want to take my time and absorb this game.
I was premature. I don't know what the heck was going on for the first couple of scenes in the game, but they literally took 5-6 minutes a piece to load. But after it froze, it's been loading fast now. Though what I find annoying is how the audio can glitch or skip when things are loading, but a very minor complaint.

And yep, this game is certainly one of the best graphically ever, and probably the best in realistic human models. I mean, when you can see the skin bumps on Shelby's face, or the single strands of hair that make up Ethan's beard, that's really quite incredible. A true testiment to the power of the PS3.

      Spoiler:
That really sucks you had sucha distraction in the room with you. Eh, I would have rather held off playing it than have someone making snobby comments while you're sitting there trying to enjoy the game. What's his problem with the game? It's not MW2?

And why would you do that, and miss out on the most innovative video to come out in years? I wouldn't normally buy a game with only a single-player mode, but this game's sucess is simply too important for the industry as a whole. Go out and support it if you're interested.

And with that, I'm off for some more!

Damn straight. LBP = The shittiest platformer I've ever encountered (with the most aggravating movement between foreground, middle, and background planes), which is coasting along on the cuteness of sackboy.

I'm currently trying to re-sell it on eBay so I can recoup my cash and use it toward Heavy Rain. (Which I will decorate with the nice alternate cover currently available on the PS Blog.)

It's nice to see the positive thoughts so far from the member's here who are currently playing HR.

Eh, to each his own. The only game I ever did that with was MGS4 but that was by accident. I didn't plan on playing it in one sitting, it just happened. I got so caught up in it that I didn't want to stop and played it for 15 1/2 hours straight. I actually remember my friends pulling up in front of my house and honking the horn, expecting me to come outside and go somewhere with them. They honked and honked until they called me and said "WTF are you doing?!" and I was just like "I'M NOT GOIN OUT TONIGHT, I GOTTA GO, BYE" and hung up.

I don't like doing that with games, though...especially ones with no multiplayer. Beating them in one sitting is tiring for one thing, and by the time you beat the game it's kinda like...bleh. I try to spread it out as much as I can to justify my purchase instead of beating it in one sitting and being like "oh, cool."

Plus, most of the time, I physically can't beat them in one sitting. Odds are I'll have class or work or something.

i'm not really missing out. i have better games to buy this year, and Heavy Rain has been on my "decisive list" for quite some time. the reason why i don't want ot buy this game at $60, is because it isn't worth $60 in my eyes. 9 hours for an interactive movie can wait down the road for me. it isn't going anywhere.

            • I agree with Branden to a degree, yet...I wouldn't put it so eloquently. 2010 is another huge year for games, and a game like this that has minimal replayability can be put on the back-burner for a while. So, although I really, really wanna go out and pick this game up, it's not killing me that I can't. Everyone's impressions on it aren't making it any easier on me, though...

Mmmm, I'd disagree. The reason I'm being so vindictive about spoilers is that, with a game like this, you are simply not going to get the same experience if you know much about the story. And since people are dicks spoilers will be showing up sooner rather than later. I've been trying to get the game a few days early to avoid as many as possible, but I expect I'll get a few before I do pick it up on Friday/Thursday. I've honestly been tempted to take this whole week off from the net.

                • The more I hear about this game the more it intrigues me. But a spoiler can ruin it all. Thankfully, I don't know all that much about it. Certainly not enough to know that I want it on day 1. I see it as sort of a catch 22 for the developers. Hopefully I can get it second hand further down the line, or once it's dropped in price

                  • Anyone who has the game having problems with the sound? During the cutscenes/QTE sequences the sound will sometimes stop for a few seconds. It gets pretty annoying when I'm trying to concentrate on all those damn buttons. It's only happened twice, but still....anyone?

Besides that though the game is fantastic. I'm finding all the characters to be extremely likable, and the music really sets the mood for the game.

I get the feeling that wont be hard. Sony is pushing the game hard in marketing, and I get the feeling a lot of people will pick this up and end up not liking it and sell it off soon enough. And so there will be copies around out there.

Heavy Rain patch causing severe problems

Among the complaints, many are complaining about game crashes, audio skipping, save/loading problems.

                        • Awwww, fucking hell! After finding out who the "who done it" (or at least part of it), my game FUCKING crashed. It stayed on a character loading screen to long, so I quit the game and restarted, where picking up from the "continue option", the game just crashes. I can't even bring up the ps3 menu even. I even removed the stupid patch that seemed to be casuing those audio problems, and my continue game STILL CRASHES. What the fuck? I hope its just my ps3 needs time to cool off. I'll test it out in hte morning, but otherwise, I'm going to be REALLY PISSED if I can't finish my game.

Haha, that's a pretty funny story. Actually, MGS4 for me was more an accident too. I mean, you just couldn't put it down--it being Solid Snakes last mission and all. But I don't mean to sound like I do one-sit runs alot or anything. No way in hell could I do that. It just really takes a special kind of game, something that I want to experience and give it my fullest intention. MGS4 was the one that kind of open my eyes to such I thing, but really, the amount of games I would do this with I could count on 1 hand. Just Heavy Rain the lucky exception, heh.

But as far as HR is concerned, there's still alot of replay value in the game, as far as seeing how the storyline changes depeneding on your choices. I believe famatisu said it would take around 30 hours to experience everything. That's quite alot, but I suppose it depends on how major the variations are.

Either way, I suppose I'll finish the game later today.

                          *Sigh*

                          *Fucking PS3*

I was sort of thinking that this game could flop and it could become scarce and somewhat a collector's interest (maybe analagous to killer7 ?). But at this stage it doesn't look like that's how it will pan out. And as others have said, this game seems to rely on a really strong single play through rather than many many play throughs or multiplayer, which makes me think it'll hit the second hand stores soon.

                            • Just finished it literally minutes ago...and all I can say is wow.

I narrowed the Origami Killer down to two people, and...I was right. This was within the first hour or so of gameplay. Rather disappointing. But other than that slight, the plot was fantastic. I was an all around good guy with most of the characters and managed to get to the end without any of them dying. The 'fight' scenes, if you can call them that, were surprisingly easy on normal mode.

Going to to a replay sometime to just be a total dick and let a few of the characters die off. I'm rather curious to see what happens if a Spoiler:
