I'm a bit disappointed in the way the storyline is told in Dead Space. Now that's not to say you won't like it, but I'm a big fan of cinematics and powerful cutscenes. This game is told like Bioshock, through text, audio and video diaries, and through people talking to you. The protagonist has no speaking lines, and there aren't any cinematics. I was really disappointed by this.
I'll grind through to the end of it, but they lost my interest.

I really liked Bioshock; it was really dark and the story line took a really good turn towards the end, which I personally didn't see coming, so I guess once I get this I'll like it too

This game will be Christmas List'd for yours truly. Looks like a worth-it-buy from Santa.

I also really liked Bioshock and I love how both game's stories are told in text/audio/video logs, reminds me a lot of reading the files in the RE series.

So far, I'm about 80% through Dead Space, and I gotta say, its been one hell of a game, I absolutely love it. The atmosphere is dark and creepy and is perfect for the game, and not to mention the gameplay is really fun in my opinion. Dismembering these things limb from limb is just awesome!

Also, another shocker, EA made this! God damn, good job EA!

Considering that the game came along with an animated Comic series, and a feature length animated movie, I was expecting the game to have movie-like cinematic sequences.
Even Resident Evil games, despite having tons of files, had cinematics. Dead Space feels very monotonous without them, it kind of bores me. The anti-gravity sequences are fun, but overall the game is... Well, it's good. But I wouldn't give it a 9.0 like gamespot did. I'd give it an 8 at most, and that's for the graphics and the fact that the gameplay is polished.

Cinematics aren't necessarily everything. Sure, Dead Space may not have full blown "cinematics" but it does have scripted events that are played out like cutscenes, except you have the ability to move around during them. They're not all that bad, I personally see no problem with it.

I'm on Level 8. As soon as they get contact with the rescue ship... But find out that that ship had picked up the escape pod that the captin had fired off at the start.
I could only think of BioShock too. And I agree with Spera on that point. BioShock was a great game. If anything: I wish BioShock had the gore that Dead Space has. (The part where the guy beats his head in to the wall was bad ass) I also saw a bit of Resident Evil 4 in this. Anyone who has played Dead Space already has seen this too. And a couple of other "less-known-about" games too. Such ass The Thing, Cold Fear and even some of the HALO series.
I thought the zero gravity parts were pretty fun too. Though I did get annoyed how some places a mile away you could jump to. But some only a few feet away wouldn't let you. And the part where you are out in space inself (on the sire of the ship or in breached areas) was a very nice touch. Notice when you go to fire one of your weapons and there is that hollow tumping echo. Very kewel. I wonder if that really happen in space.

Well, I'm a bit pickier about games. I consider myself more of a movie fan, I guess. So I like video games that play like interactive movies. After the animated comic and the movie, I guess I just assumed that Dead Space would be like most games, in that aspect.

Oh well, it'll teach me to rent before I buy. Or read more detailed reviews.

Well, I just beat Dead Space. Gotta say, the story kinda somewhat confuses me a bit. I think I may have to go back and see the last chapters again, cause I kinda understood what the whole thing going on was, but part of me also found it confusing as hell. Also, another part of me found the story to be pretty cool, then also another part of me makes me think it was stupid as hell.

Don't click this if you don't wanna be spoiled on the story and end of the game:
                      Spoiler:

I got one really important question: what is Dead Space's length? How much time do you need to beat it?

Its about 8-12 hours more or less depending on if you explore every room, etc. Each chapter is about a little over an hour long. I cleared it with 9 hours and 39 minutes.

Hi, Im picking up this game tomorrow in the UK. I know nothing of the story and have deliberately kept away from all of the chat but i have one question:
The animated film they have made, am i best watching that first before i play the game or will i be spoiled? I know its a prequel but i don't want the game spoiled.
                              Cheers!

Thanks, it's length is fine for me. Probably I'll buy the game.
