  • Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3 (PSP) is go!

    Topic speaks for itself!

Irem's hawt 'n sexy franchise Zettai Zetsumei Toshi gets a third installment!
Some of you might've had an encounter with the first two games through either:

Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 1/SOS - The Final Escape/Disaster Report
    or
Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 2 - Frozen Memories/Raw Danger

This game is one of those things I've been waiting for to happen!
If it will be localized is hard to tell, as the first game didn't exactly create headlines and the second game went very much under the radar (Especially in Europe, where it only got published in Italy and France.)

Anyway, no thread about a new game without some picture stuff:

Here's the photo that brought me the good news:

No clue who took it and all that stuff...

Also, let's just have a look at some random stuff from my own "collection"!

(There's a tiny "intruder" in that picture, and that's the demo of "Sakurasaka Shobotai", a firefighter game by Irem. It's f-ing fantastic and it's a shame The West was busy getting flooded by mediocre firefighter games at the time, resulting in this ONE GOOD ONE not getting a localization.)

    Kapow!

Looks like Famitsu jumped the gun on Sony's PSP lineup for TGS. While everyone is waiting for the TGS event to confirm that one unannounced game by Irem for the PSP, scans of the recent Famitsu issue reveal Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3, the third installment in Irem's survival action game series.

Some of you will remember this better as Disaster Report (first installment) and Raw Danger (second installment) on the PS2. European gamers would know it collectively as the SOS: The Final Escape series.

Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 3 is now headed for Sony's handheld with the first couple of details revealed in the scan:

The game takes place in Central Island
Naoki Kosaka and Saki Honjo will try to survive in the city
Stress plays an important role in the concept of the game, bar health decrease depending on the status anxiety of the character
An ad-hoc option for 4-player multiplay is planned
Linkidy Link Link with scan of the pages, with some screens. This could well be the screen Carn just posted, but I can't get it to load my end so... Yeah...

    Looks another title I'll want for my PSP I never got to play the second one as it never came out here, and I never got a chipped PS2 in the end, thus making it impossible for me ;_;

Ill have to look on youtube for a play through or something!

It kinda did. (There's a PAL copy in my "collection")
You'll just have to track down a disc from France or Italy.

        HAY THAR MR. BUMP!

So, a demo of the game was put up on the Japanese PSN store yesterday. I'm sure Carnivol played it, but I'll go ahead and throw my impressions up here. Why you might ask? 'Cause that's how I roll.

-The game feels a lot darker than the previous Zettai games. At the start of the demo, the character is freaking out due to seeing dead bodies and such.

-The exhaustion/heat system of the previous two games has been replaced by a stress meter. You will start out with a large health bar with a small Stress box at the end of this. The more stressed you get, the more the stress box stretches out and replaces your health bar. When you are completely stressed, the character will begin to run slower and an effect can be seen on screen. You can reset your stress bar by using either a bench to sit and rest, or by drinking water.

-There also seems to be a smoke system, however, it's hardly used in the demo. Basically, if you're character is in smoke, he will cough, his stress will raise and he will find it hard to see.

-The outfit system is still here, although it looks like you pick up entire outfits now instead of clothing pieces to assemble an outfit.

-The framerate did jump about, but for the most it was fine, and at the worst of times the game was still playable. Anyone who has played a previous Zettai game basically knows what to expect.

-The NEW GAME option brought up a screen with two characters, a boy and a girl. The demo only allows you to pick the boy, but it's nice to see the multiple scenarios of Zettai 2 return, even if it has been streamlined to two scenarios instead of five.

-It looks like there is a lot of character building options and dialogue choices like in previous games. However, I don't speak Japanese so I don't know what they said, so this is just me presuming.

-The new style character models are a welcome change. I can't be the only one who thought that the previous game (blonde or not blonde) had some seriously fuck ugly characters. The cartoonish look fits the game better, and in general makes the characters look more interesting. Even the standard NPCs look much better this time around.

-It seems like some of the series' humour is back. For example, at one point in the game you need to use something to climb to a higher place, and although it's pretty obvious what you need to use, you can still use things like the ice cream decoration from an ice cream truck, to which both characters just look at each other puzzled.

-The partner system plays very much like any parts were you had someone with you in previous games. I don't know if there's more to this new system, but if there is, it wasn't in the demo.

-In general, the game looks beautiful, definitely one of the best PSP games I've seen to date, and considering this is coming from Irem, I was pretty blown away with the production. Looks great, plays great, great voice acting too. The load time can be a bit on the long side, but nothing that ever really irritated me, plus, the menu has an option to Install, so hopefully that'll trim a few seconds off the final release.

So yeah. This game will be awesome, and I can't wait now.

It's really interesting to note that the demo is just 66mb, runs on fw 5.02, contains a rather healthy amount of voice acting and some FMV sequences. Guess they compressed the heck out of it in the demo, 'cause if they're using a full UMD with data stored the same way as in the demo... then this game has potential for being VERY huge.

Can't wait for the full version to come out. Definitively one of the "must buy" titles on the PSP this year.
