so i have been looking over the specs comparing the wii and the gamecube and the wii on paper is about twice as fast as the gamecube. my question is why are there not any games out that take advantage of the extra speed? all the games i have seen on the wii look like gamecube graphics. i wish a developer would push the wii to the limit.

Look at any game that is made by someone who had experience on the GameCube. Although the Wii has the advantage of using similar hardware to its past generation cousin, not many gave the GameCube the full treatment they should've.
Anyway, some titles worth a quick look is:
Metroid Prime 3
Super Mario Galaxy
Disaster: Day of Crisis
Excite Truck
de Blob
Mushroom Men
The Conduit
and so on.
One of the things I feel that some people are trying to do on the Wii now that they FORGET to do on the next gen consoles is to basically polish what we already have and do "more of that". I think Dead Rising is the only game I know of that has successfully managed to do that. Graphics aren't "too fancy", but the fact that you suddenly have a shitload of objects on screen make it much more impressive in action.
At the moment, some of the stuff you see on the Wii is basically last gen on larger scale with updates and further polish. People tend to forget that. The other two platforms have so far basically done "last gen" with higher detail graphics (and extra surround sound.)

There's a solid dose of excellentness on the Virtual Console, indeed.
Got a good bag of classics lined up, ready to play.
+there are some curiosities too, such as Japan only Sin & Punishment for the N64 (which by the way just got a sequel for the Wii revealed for itself).
And then there are interesting promises from developers such as Factor 5 that if Super Turrican 1-2 + Mega Turrican sells "well enough", they will apparently consider releasing an expanded "Director's Cut" (of sorts) version of Super Turrican.
And oh, Mega Man 9 on the Wii is the superior version for those who even wants to pick on the tiny tiny details!

I've yet to buy a VC game, but there are two I definately will when I'm reunited with my Wii.
Paper Mario (N64): PAL versions sell for $100+ on ebay. Was a very limited release.
Super Mario RPG (SNES): Never released outside of the US and Japan. Now I'll finally get to play it .
I'm really pleased that they do things like this. Publish rare games, as well as introducing games to regions they were never released in.Last edited by TheSelfishGene; 10-03-2008, 10:31 AM.sigpic

I havn't been able to get my Wii online. I need help
I think I have to do something at my Router's end because I've tried every auto and manual way on the Wii... without success.
I've had my Wii since RE-UC was released but that's still the only game I've bought for the system.
However, I've read there are some cool games to download.
I wanna get Splatterhouse 1 & 2 (and 3 is coming). I know they are crappy games but they are part of my gaming childhood. I remember seeing it as a youngster and thinking "OMG! A game that lets you play as Jason Voohees! My dream has come true!"
It's kinda the original 'Videogame Nasty'.
There's even a new one being made for PS3/360, by Namco I think.

I couldn't get the Wii online either, the system is very temperamental when it comes to the internet. It used to work with a standard wired connection, but when I switched over to wireless, it stopped working and refused to even acknowledge the existence of my connection. I entered the SSID, the WEP key, etc. Everything it asked me for, I inputted into the system. Each time it would throw out a different error code. I searched for each of them online, hoping to find a solution but nothing solid ever came from it because each time it didn't work, it gave a different code.
The PS3 was different though, when I first switched it on and set up the internet, it immediately noticed that I had a wireless connection present and provided me with a list of which connection I wanted to use. Just selected mine, clicked next and there it was, job done. "Oh, this your internet? Mind if we use it?" - "Sure, no problem" - "K, thanks". Simple as that.
That said, any solutions for the Wii?See you in hell.

Well, the Wii online help site told me (and I'm being serious) that the problem may be solved if I Download the latest system update.
So my Wii, that I can't get online with, just has to get online and download the latest update
I've never tried it with a wired connection. I might give it a go and unplug my Wii, move it closer to my pc and hook it up. If it works, I'll download some games, unplug it and move it back. Maybe it will even work wireless, if I get the update...
Yes, my PS3 had no problems. It even gave me the option of using my neighbors connections or my own.

Here is what is giving you your problems. It isn't the firmware, it's actually a faulty WiFi antenna in the Wii. My friend had the exact same problem as you guys. The Wii would see his connection, but could never authenticate it. He sent in his Wii to Nintendo and they said it was a faulty WiFi antenna. From what I've read online, this problem is becoming more common. I think Nintendo went to cheaper manufacturers and quality control has gone down.
As for us, we've had our Wii ever since it first came out, so far we haven't had any problems.Last edited by FeurMensch; 10-05-2008, 10:42 PM.
