  • Nintendo DSi revealed

    Taken from Joystiq:

Nintendo officially unveils Nintendo DSi and online store, coming Nov 1 in Japan for $180

Even before Nintendo announced it, the DSi had been the talk of the town. According to our Japanese correspondent, the DSi will be 12 percent thinner, and will get rid of the GBA slot entirely. The DSi will also include two built-in cameras (one reportedly VGA resolution) and music playback. It will add an SD card slot and internal storage (we don't yet know how much) to enhance its multimedia capabilities. The screens are now slightly larger at 3.25 inches, photos can be synced to the Wii Photo Channel, and the unit will include a free browser application.

Nintendo is also launching the "DSi Shop" to sell content directly over Wi-Fi. Prices for the store, which are also tied into Wii Nintendo Points, will use 0, 200, 500 and 800-point tiers. Until March 2010, 1000 Nintendo points will come bundled with the device.

Nintendo is calling the DSi a "third platform," implying that it's not competing with the DS -- though as a history lesson, the DS was originally a "third platform" against the now-retired Game Boy Advance.

The DSi will launch November 1 in black and white colors. It will cost ¥189,000 (approx. US $178). We won't fault you for misreading this as "iDS," given the very iPod Touch-esque additions.

Personally I'd much rather use dedicated devices rather than all-in-ones.
They just seem to be better at doing what they do.
I've still got my old Fat Japanese Launch DS. Still works great!
And it's the only model that the sexy Biohazard Deadly silence case fits

About 6 months ago my drug addict cousin swiped my old DS so I have to get a new one. Luckily he's an idiot and he missed most of the games (though he somehow had the foresight to swipe Tetris DS). Looks like I'll just wait til next year to get this one.

My DS works just fine. I see no reason to buy the DSi for the new features.

I was tempted to import it but it seems the planned downloadable content for DSi is region locked. Then again the Japanese tend to get anything and everything so I may import it anyway.

Looks like a complete waste of money, once again Nintendo are stuck in their ways, region locking downloadable content *meaning Europeans will once again be fucked up the arse with half arsed content and no doubt 50htz ported games if N64 or SNES games become available*.
And the spec increases aren't enough to warrant my buying one when im happy with my DS Lite.

Liked the DS Widescreen mock up images some site made, they looked alot more promising then the shit nintendo have yet again come up with.
Once again they completely failed in giving consumers what they want.
*And if anyone says a 0.3mp camera is a good idea, i'll punch you*
