I'm more than halfway through on normal difficulty and never in my life have I cursed so much at a game (except maybe Rayman). I usually don't mind trial and error gameplay, but Mirror's Edge takes it to a whole new level.

There are a lot of times when you have to be very precise at jumping, wall running, etc. but the controls just aren't responsive enough. There were numerous occasions where I made a jump the first time only to screw up countless other times due to pressing the jump button a few inches too soon BECAUSE I was scared of overshooting and falling to my death; it happens often, believe me.

The combat is really tedious and usually a test of ones reflexes (and patience). People usually say that:
    a) You have a choice of running away
    b) This is, first and foremost, a platformer. The emphasis isn't on combat.

    My answers are:
    a) Bullshit. There are many times when you have no chance and HAVE to engage the enemy, like (Spoiler:
b)Then they shouldn't have made combat mandatory in some areas, should they? It's also no excuse for the unresponsive controls combined with the millisecond timing required for disarming the guards.

Based on what I've written so far, you may think that I hate this game, but I don't. There are plenty of things Mirror's Edge does right.

The graphics look incredible from both a technical and artistic viewpoint (reminds me of video clips in the 90's for some reason), animations are nice and fluid.

The music is a relaxing mix of lounge, chillout and DnB; it really helps when the going gets rough. No complaints in the sound department either, though Faith's breathing does tend to get on my nerves at times.

If you are the persistent type of gamer and have nerves of steel you should at least give Mirror's Edge a rent.
Despite the irritating flaws I mentioned earlier, there are plenty of moments in the game that compensate for all those problems. The concept is a breath of fresh air and when it works, nothing can compare to it. I just wish it worked more often.

From what I had played so far, I would give this game a 7/10.

Im probably going to wait for this one to go down to £20 before I pick it up.
        I like the irony of the story though;

Governments Bad, Corporations bad...MIRRORS EDGE, presented to you by...EA.

I'm done chapter 5 or 6 so far.

              I'm actually enjoying it.

I don't have much of a problem with the combat (except I find myself rarely doing anything other than disarming when there's an enemy nearby). Although I *am* on Easy right now (>_>), so I don't know if you need better timing for normal mode (I heard the gun doesn't flash red on Hard).

It's surprising for me, because I generally am not a big fan of trial-and-error-heavy games or even first-person console games (although most FP games are shooters, and this one isn't focused on being a shooter). Okay, I *did* find myself quitting at certain parts where I wasn't sure where to go to how to do it, but I never find the game as a whole frustrating...

I'm getting myself the big soundtrack (North American version, 11 tracks). I love video game OSTs

The soundtrack for this game is stunning! I honestly enjoyed the crap out of every song I heard, be it the calming noises during a puzzle or the blood-pumping music of a chase or running away. I just loved all of it.

The game is definitely not a free roaming game, but rather a linear affair. That being said, the pathways that you are meant to take are not always outlined for you and runner vision is most definitely NOT highlighting everything that Faith can jump on top of or run across. To put things simply, Runner Vision is there for your guidance but is definitely not everything. It is possible to explore and find baggage parts that can unlock bonus content (BTS Videos, Concept Art etc.) and it's very rewarding to find these.

What's perhaps most amazing about Mirror's Edge is that it really encourages you to do things one of two ways. The first way, and my preferred way, is to make decisions about your environment as you are running without breaking Faith's flow of movement. This is, what I assume, the way that real free runners think and it really makes the game feel much more adrenaline filled than playing it otherwise, and also feels very rewarding to guess your way through the environment and come out unscathed.

That being said, it's very fulfilling to actually die a few times and memorise the course to complete it without breaking Faith's flow of movement also, but that involved death and personally I hate dying in games =P.

The disarm moves are pretty much glorified quick time events, but they are pretty cool to do, along with Faith's limited Martial Arts skill. This game is first and foremost an adventure game and second an action game, so I understand why there is little to no emphasis on gunplay (I'm not firing a gun for achievements' sake).

The storyline is told through high definition flash style cutscenes, which I feel are pretty inefficient at building the characters of the game and instead really segment the cutscenes from the gameplay. With a game that is so immersive, it would've been nice to see the crux of the story through Faith's eyes than shitty cutscenes. Still, the story is intriguing enough to be compelled to play just to find out the outcome.

This is also possibly one of the best performing Unreal Engine titles I've seen this gen. Sure, Gears, Mass Effect + Lost Odyssey looks awesome but they were technically marred by some graphical glitching. Mirror's Edge is bright and amazing to watch. There are little to no graphical bugs, and the game does an amazing job at making your environment feel sterile, an effect that ties into the storyline no doubt. The art direction and sound design in this game are amazing.

So far, I'd recommend it. It is a short game (I've yet to complete but I hear it is) and it is one of those game that Time Trial type people will enjoy.

I finally got around to getting it earlier this week... no one else seems to have mentioned any bugs, but I've had issues with the game. I have the PS3 version, so that might be why... but I've had the game lock up on me once, and twice a button action has shown the button has pressed, but the item it's supposed to open hasn't worked, forcing me to reload to last checkpoint. :/

It's annoying because aside from the issues, I am enjoying the game.

I just got this today and i played it for an hour or so and it make me feel sick, i like it alright but if i'm gonna play it i think i'm actually gonna have to listen to that little warning in the manual about only playing for 45 minutes at a time cause it really made me nauseous.

I beat the game a few weeks ago and it was amazing. The story was really good, but way too short. The music is incredible and blends in perfectly with the game. Can't wait for the sequel.
