I'm more than halfway through on normal difficulty and never in my life have I cursed so much at a game (except maybe Rayman). I usually don't mind trial and error gameplay, but Mirror's Edge takes it to a whole new level.
There are a lot of times when you have to be very precise at jumping, wall running, etc. but the controls just aren't responsive enough. There were numerous occasions where I made a jump the first time only to screw up countless other times due to pressing the jump button a few inches too soon BECAUSE I was scared of overshooting and falling to my death; it happens often, believe me.
The combat is really tedious and usually a test of ones reflexes (and patience). People usually say that:
a) You have a choice of running away
b) This is, first and foremost, a platformer. The emphasis isn't on combat.
My answers are:
a) Bullshit. There are many times when you have no chance and HAVE to engage the enemy, like (Spoiler:
Based on what I've written so far, you may think that I hate this game, but I don't. There are plenty of things Mirror's Edge does right.
The graphics look incredible from both a technical and artistic viewpoint (reminds me of video clips in the 90's for some reason), animations are nice and fluid.
The music is a relaxing mix of lounge, chillout and DnB; it really helps when the going gets rough. No complaints in the sound department either, though Faith's breathing does tend to get on my nerves at times.
If you are the persistent type of gamer and have nerves of steel you should at least give Mirror's Edge a rent.
Despite the irritating flaws I mentioned earlier, there are plenty of moments in the game that compensate for all those problems. The concept is a breath of fresh air and when it works, nothing can compare to it. I just wish it worked more often.
From what I had played so far, I would give this game a 7/10.

b)Then they shouldn't have made combat mandatory in some areas, should they? It's also no excuse for the unresponsive controls combined with the millisecond timing required for disarming the guards.
