what game deserves a remake

  • i was watching some movie and a girl loses her ham to a truck running over it, that felt more scary than RE4 did

    • Like I said, there were parts in Uncharted, that were more creepy than anything in RE4. And genre wise, Uncharted is pretty much Tomb Raider.

      • Oddly enough, apparently it was meant to be origionally. Odd, but true.

        I like realism. I can't stand being able to blast something I can't see, or getting bitten by something the character can see but I can't. It's bad planning, really.

        And yes, RE4 is stupidly easy. But I don't blame that on the camera but the enemies and the excess in ammo. Why not shotgun the enemy group down? You've got a hundred odd shells. And yeah, I remember more than one occasion where I've been dragging my ass around, limping in RE2, looking for healing items. It was good.

        The same could have happened if RE4 was surivial horror, not action survival or whatever crap they call it. But that just means loosing the autosave, decreasing the ammo count and making the Ganados (or other enemies) actually halfway decent.

        Hell, Survivor and Dead Aim are both survival horror. Albeit it not great ones.

          • Yeah, but by your logic, all the games should be exactly the same. And that's boring as hell. There's PLENTY of games out there where you can see what you're shooting, and have a full control of the camera.
            In some cases, like RE, the camera was static and independent, and you couldn't see the monsters. It's different. But different doesn't mean bad.

            There are games out there, like Final Fantasy 7, where you fight by taking turns. That's hardly realistic, but it's still a fun game. And frankly, I prefer my RPGs turn based.

            There are games out there where you need health packs to heal yourself, and there are games where you get healed automatically. There are games with auto aim, and there are games where you have to aim yourself. There are stealth games where if you're discovered, the guards will come and hunt you down, and you can hunt them right back, and there are stealth games where if you're discovered, you have to start over from a check point.
            There are different types of games out there, and to get rid of any one convention is an insult to every single person who ever loved that convention.
            I loved static camera angles, and so did many other people, and to abolish it completely is an insult. Let alone to remake a game which originally had static angles and abolish it in the remake of it.
            I'd kill for a new game (survival horror or otherwise) that implements static, independent camera.

            • You do have a point, and I realize it's my personal preference there. I simply don't care about the camera angles, and don't especially see why people feel a game can only be RE if it's got the fixed cameras. Survivor, Dead Aim and such show it doesn't have to be. Although given the quality of those it's not the best argument ever.

              I see it as something like the time, years ago, my friend refused to play Mario 64 because True Mario is a side scroller. It just seemed strange to me. There are so many elements that make up a game that it seems like the camera angle isn't that important.

              • I personally don't think it can only be RE with fixed angles. I'm just saying only with fixed angles does the game scream true RE. Like, you see the fixed angles, and stuff, you go, "That's trademark Resident Evil."
                I simply really REALLY prefer the static camera angles.

                    and to me, it is not RE without them, RE4 did not feel like an RE to me, and neither did dead aim.

                      I agree that fixed camera angles have their charm, that they add to the overall atmosphere, and I love them - but in adventure games, in cut-scenes... Gameplay wise they only allow game creators to cheat: enemies can see you, your character can see them, but you - as a gamer - can't. In the end in every game in the series (excluding RE2, that doesn't have auto aiming) after entering every new room I was somewhat forced to check if there's an enemy by aiming my weapon, so it would auto-aim and that's not good.

                          Yes you can turn off auto-aim, but then you have to manually aim for enemies you can't see 'couse they are off-screen :|.

                            • But it also not a good thing when you're caught by a creature that stands there, right in front your character, but the cameraman prefers to show you those nice doors you just came through instead of a monster that will attack you any moment now. It's especially frustrating when you're playing for the first time.

                              As I've said, I like fixed camera angles, because, just like BH EX have said, it adds to the atmosphere and makes the game more cinematic. But I just don't see how gameplay-wise those are better than a dynamic behind a character (or over the shoulder) camera.

                              • Dead Aim is really RE4 mixed with FPS.
                                Its got the classic zombies, the chilling feel, and the same type of gameplay as RE4, yet everyone pisses on it.
                                Its so funny because theres no action in Dead Aim, but as soon as RE goes action its GAME OF TEH YEEAARZ.
                                Meh, whatever, classic gameplay is dead and we can't bring it back no matter what we do.
