A few of the tracks that have defined a game for me-
Menu Theme from Burnout
This game (and its sequel) really set themselves apart from pretty much every other racing game. Im disappointed that they didnt get the critical and financial acclaim they deserved. The theme reflects the games point- 100% pure, adrenaline filled fun through dangerous traffic. Its like a brief relaxing moment before the race starts. Brilliant.
Outbreak opening theme
I think this is one of the best musical pieces that define not just the Outbreak games, but all RE games that deal with Raccoon City. The music reeks of hopelessness and despair, perfect tune to the last days of Raccoon.
The Twin Snakes Main Screen Music
I think this is by far the best track to introduce and prepare the player to the upcoming fight between two brothers. Unnerving, very heavy, serious.

ActRaiser - Stage 1 - Filmore
-Maybe not as much game defining as game music defining. After the release of the Arrange Tracks CD for ActRaiser, I think game music in general started to gather quite a bit of serious recognition as "real music" and not just pissed upon as "bleeps and blops". So to complement the SNES original there, here's the arrange track version.
Batman (NES) - Stage 1 - Streets of Desolation
-It's Batman!
Beyond Good & Evil - Some bar - Propaganda
-When pimping Beyond Good & Evil, it's mandatory to say something retarded like "Zelda for grown ups". I can see where they are coming from, but I wish they would rather go with saying it's Zelda with a Comic/Sci-fi setting, or something along those lines. Showing a random piece of music from the soundtrack (Propaganda, which plays in the Bar you get to visit) gives you an idea of what type of effort got put into "creating a world" in this game.
Crusader: No Remorse - Main Menu - The Traveler
Crusader: No Remorse - Mission 01 - Dimension 2012
-A game that is purely about ass kicking and 90s live action FMVs.
Crusader: No Regret - Main Menu - The Traveler (Remix)
Crusader: No Regret - Mission 01 - Ninth Crusade
-Regret started out nicely by just kicking up the old main theme a notch followed by more ass kicking.
Full Throttle - Opening Theme - Legacy (By: The Gone Jackals)
-Entirely sets the mood of the game.
Journey to Silius - Stage 2 - Stage 2
-This is one of those odd NES tracks that for some reason just dragged on forever. It's actually 3m25s long before the first loop point. It's a pretty fantastic track, although it might not be as fast paced as the other tracks are, and as action as the game actually is. It goes very nicely in as a second level theme after the pretty awesome pack of 4 tracks that gets served to you first (Intro, Main Theme, Stage 1 (and 5) and Boss Theme).
Lost Odyssey - Main Theme - Main Theme
-Just Fantastic. Done by touching a bit here and there, making it sound like it really belongs to a different culture. (Works as both an entry drug to the greatness of Lost Odyssey and as iPod music when you're sightseeing in huge foreign cities with a vastly different culture to your own.)
The Neverhood - Opening Theme - Theme of The Neverhood
-Neverhood had an award winning soundtrack, and it really helps set the mood of this rather unusual game. Pretty much any track would've been a good "defining" track, but I felt the main theme was in order.Last edited by Carnivol; 12-01-2008, 06:53 AM.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - The Price of Freedom
-This version of the main theme for this game is like a solid wrap up of everything this game is. If some creepy fanboy (or disbeliever) isn't sold on "It's a prequel to Final Fantasy VII", then you just give them a piece of the soundtrack and ask them "If it has a theme such as this, can you really live with yourself thinking it is bad without finding out for yourself?"
Jet Set Radio - Everybody Jump Around (By Richard Jacques)
-This track didn't actually even appear in the initial release of the game, I think. But only in the international and "De La" releases. Anyway, it certainly sets the mood and gives the listener a "feel" of what type of game it is. This game actually made me bring out my rollerblades a few times too many. Talk about games having a bad effect on people... I could've gotten myself hurt, many times!
Jet Set Radio Future - Birthday Cake (By Cibo Matto)
-I actually feel really bad about mentioning tracks from both Jet Set Radio games, but neither of them are by Hideki Nakamura, the person I'd probably say has done the most amazing job in creating a "correct" soundtrack. The soundtracks to Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future are pretty much without doubt some of the most complete and correct in terms of mood and setting. So here's The Concept of Love and Like It Like This Like That.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Court Suite (from the Attorney Meets Orchestra arrange album)
-This is basically a compilation of tracks from the game, more or less directly lifted from the game and performance by a full orchestra. The way the music "evolves" during a trial in this game makes this a nice way of showing a "single track" that "defines" the game. Presenting this as a piece of evidence, while stating that this is from a game about "lawyers and stuff" is not only the truth, but also solid enough evidence to convince people that they do need this game in their collection.Last edited by Carnivol; 12-01-2008, 10:04 AM.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - The Price of Freedom
knowing your going to die no matter what, but still fighting the endless wave of enemies with the awesome music playing in the background just brings out that whole scene.
