  • Final Fantasy vs. Resident Evil

Which series is better in the following categories:

    Story
    Characters
    Graphics
    Gameplay
    Music
    Design

I chose FF because it is generally the weakest of the RPGs I play in terms of story and music so it's a bit closer to RE.

I really wanna say that FF is better in every facet.

But I'll give RE the nod in...

    ...

    ...shit...I don't think I can do it.

Resident Evil has better graphics, gameplay and design.

Storyline... I will say that all Final Fantasy Games have been consistenly better than Resident Evil. By which I mean, I think there's a better storyline in FF7, as opposed to RE1, which came out around the same time.
However, I think both series got consistently crappier with time. So at this point, both Final Fantasy AND Resident Evil are crap.

RE, purely because I hate fantasy in most cases.

That's the sad thing... RE0 was borderline fantasy... And RE4 crossed the border.

Nothing wrong with fantasy. Being realistic is overrated. And considering how unrealistic the RE series is, it might as well get some fantasy in.

I mean just look at SH. It's plots and characters assrape RE's.

But Resident Evil was established as science fiction, meaning things that don't exist in real life, but by establishing some set rules, you can allow yourself to believe that they do. But when you start creating new rules, and keep on doing that, it's fantasy. And that's not Resident Evil.

You make it sound like you want every single game in the world to be exactly the same. Would you rather Resident Evil had swords and magic too?

No. And I wouldn't want every game to be the same. I no more want swords and magic in RE than I want viruses that turn people into zombies in my FF games.

I just feel there's no problem in melding fantasy or realism. FF has guns and RE has some people in robes. Big deal.

It's not just people in robes. It's creatures like El Gigante. And Leon's little stunts.
It's everyone's outfit. Even Luis didn't look like he belonged in a normal world.

Was there a file that went into more depth of how El Gigante was created? Because then I wouldn't hate it so much.

I don't remember one. Either way, it looked basically like the cave troll from Lord of the Rings... I didn't like it one bit.

I'm going with RE. Though each game of the FF series had a (sometimes) decent story, none of the games really went together. The only real game I liked was FF Tactics. Square-Enix has run the FF7 series into the ground with their constant prequels, sequels, and remakes.

                        Are you tired, Rebecca?

Yeah, they killed FF7 for me, and I Despise them for it. I can't even play the original without thinking about AC, and Dirge. I need some FF7 Sequel rehab.

I mean overall, Final Fantasy always had the good storyline aspects. Including character development. And Nikkolas, since all the good FF games have been independent, they didn't need a prequel to show the development.

But overall, yes, I do like Resident Evil's concept better. A pharmaceutical corporation, secretly developing bio weapons... That's something I loved way more than anything Final Fantasy ever created. Resident Evil was my favorite game series (up to a certain point) for a reason.

When will people realise that both apples and oranges are delicious.

Although my personal taste (subjective!) is for Resident Evil.

As much as I hate RE4, I can't help but agree with one basic thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZsDUSxK5Fs
