Yeah, back then it would've been considered gorgeous graphics. But by today's standards. FFX real time graphics aren't as good as most PS2 games. I mean, all their fingers aren't even separated, just their index.

But if you want to compare it to Code Veronica, then yes, the graphics in FFX are superior.

Yeah, no... I'm not gonna turn it into another debate about RE4. If you wanna keep trying to convince yourself that RE4 laser scene was actually cool, that's fine. But let's stick to the topic, shall we?

Final Fantasy does have Kefka, so that automatically beats Resi Evil in the "characters" section. As for the other categories, Resi Evil. I've never been a real fan of Final Fantasy, in fact, I think it's easily the most overrated gaming series in existence. FF6 is pretty much the only FF I've ever enjoyed.

Vagrant Story is where it's at.

            Versus topics belong in GameFAQ's.

And Parasite Eve is superior to both.

Well... It borrows from both. Parasite Eve 2 anyway. Which I thought was better than Parasite Eve 1.

Has to be said, FFXIII does look amazing. I'll be getting Versus though I think, I prefer that play style.

Yeah, well, that's a whole new engine they're using.

Final Fantasy is mostly appreciated by shallow, testosterone fuelled males who prefer bishounen lead protagonists to actual plot. Just look at the trailers for FFXIII Versus, it's disgraceful. Some generic, cliche story saturated in superficial, syrupy characters with quirky hairstyles and "badass" mentalities. It's all about being EXTREEEEEME. What happened to the good plot? Games, like films, are not there to remind us of real life, but to immerse us in a fantasy world - and by that I don't mean lol laser grid sequence, but rather an interesting and compelling plot, a story that takes us away from the monotony of our real lives and transports us on an adventure.

In that regard, Suikoden > Final Fantasy.

FF never had sported a brilliant plot but they were still interesting. i'd say the best thing they do is create beautiful fantasy worlds that are fun to explore and learn about.
There's also nothing wrong with bishie heroes. It's the character itself that matters. Zidane comes to mind since he's my favorite main protagonist of the FF series. And Kuja is my favorite villain. And FFIX is my favorite FF title. See a pattern?

So yeah, FF isn't exactly telling a plot with the depth of Xenogears but it's still an anjoyable tale in most of the games and it's supported by a usually diverse and well-explored cast of heroes. Much as I think it's overrated, FFVII's cast (in the game) were excellent with each member getting their own subplot to explore and develop them.

What the heck does "bishounen" mean?

It's literal meaning, no idea. It's the general term used for anime men who look feminine/girly/whatever. There are subtle bishies who just have long hair and aren't overly muscular or anything else to show they are masculine.
Then there are what they call "traps". Anime men who are easily mistaken for women.
                          A ocuple examples:

Disturbing. Characters like that should not exist.

I mostly second that, but I must say that I like when a game story somewhat parallels a real life controversy or such. Final Fantasy, sadly, never had a good story, and the characters (wich Square is so proud of), were always paper thin and ridiculous looking. Don't even get me started on the dialog and voice acting. As for Resident Evil (the old ones at least), it's always been the classic story of zombies overruning a small, quiet town in god-knows-where. Tho not actually original, that's always been enjoyable on some level. Not to mention, you're actually playing it, unlike the interactive menu-adventure that Final Fantasy is.

And yes, Suikoden is really the better game between those 2.
