FEAR wasn't scary. It was creepy, much like Condemned was creepy.
If you thought there were similarities to Condemned, play Condemned 2. The last level is basically F.E.A.R. in a nutshell.

F.E.A.R. 2 looks awesome so far. Anybody know how long we have left to wait?

I'm about half-way through the expansion pack, and I gotta say, in some ways it's better than the original. More straightforward story, and even a bit creepier than the first.

        Alma is sooooooo overhyped though

How the hell is she overhyped? People dont even discuss her on forums. Shes a villain, thats it.

A lot of people on these forums apparently love the word "overhyped". I thought my understanding of English was bad but some of you guys take it to the next level.

Alma is portrayed a typical scary little kid. The tag-line for F.E.A.R. 2 is even "FEAR Alma again". I mean, over-hyped maybe isn't the best term, but she is, however used as the game's mascot of sorts.

Thats because shes integral to the story, it has nothing to do with "hype". That word is evil.

I think the problem is our definition of scary has been skewed. I hate all American horror movies, thinking that having something run across the screen and a very loud noise startle you. Cheep scares are just an excuses for bad witting, especially if that is the only thing you've got going for you. When done well, there is only a few cheep scares, that lead to the overall tension, think the dog jumping through the window in RE1. Sure it was a cheep scare the first time, but every time after that, that you walked down that hallway, you were afraid that it would happen again. But if they did it in a different hallway, it would have become boring. The scripted parts in F.E.A.R. were cool, but got boring after the first two.

The scariest parts of Resident Evil weren't scripted. It was walking down a hallway, running out of ammo, hoping that shuffling and moaning you hear is just one zombie, not ten.

F.E.A.R. has been the scariest game I've ever played. Off in the distance you see a guard on patrol, go around a corner alone, so you follow, trying to get the drop on him. You'd get there and find out it's just an empty space that leads nowhere. You find health so you pick it up, thinking the trip wasn't a complete waste. You turn to leave, and he's standing right behind you. You crap you pants then when ever you see some one go behind the corner, you're too afraid to make that mistake again. All the creepy things got under your skin and made a good FPS in to a great horror game.

And those damn invisibly wall ninja. If you ever loose track of one of those.

                  They're fucking annoying.

So is Alma. She ruins the game, I'm sick of those hallucinations.

That was in one of the expansions, wasn't it?

I loved that sequence. Also, anyone complaining about how those things doesn't work or whatever in F.E.A.R. needs to up the stakes a bit. They're obviously "doing it wrong". (You know, like those who sit in a room watching Alien with lights on, contrast/brightness pumped up, sound on mute and a bunch of people talking.)

                    Like I said before:
F.E.A.R. is best played in a dark room, full surround sound, no saving/loading outside of the checkpoints and on Extreme Difficulty.
Did it on all 3 parts on the Xbox 360 version, and I'm sure as hell gonna do it instantly when F.E.A.R. 2 pops up (though, it might be overlapping with Bionic Commando... hmm... priorities!)

Carnivol << yes it was an expansion. When I got the first FEAR I put it on hard took off the reticule and tried my hardest to make it though, but the learning curve was to high.

Hopefully Resident Evil 5 will have a difficulty setting at the beginning, because I love to go through games on hard the first time.

i prefer the medium. i was able to beat the first condemned on medium but sadly the 2nd was like a rom hack designed by pinhead.

the enemies were all armed to the teath with guns. when you steal them there always empty even after they reloaded, the sound was off in some areas, the subtitles are useless and of course the focus on melee disappears after someone thinks its awesome just to make it gun and special powers based.

all in all buy the first screw the second!

I just beat Extraction Point, and this is getting stupid. The rescue chopper got blown up, AGAIN!? This is pure milking of a franchise. Sure, I'll get Perseus Mandate for $15 now that EB is having a sale, but I would never spend full price on it.

God, Vivendi. Get some better ideas for stretching a game than exploding and destroying ways to get out of this Alma situation.

It may have been a sign that not all was well between the developer and publisher. Remember that the end result was that one party got away with rights to all the characters and the other party went with the rights to the name. Which is why I think that by the end of Perseus Mandate Spoiler:

Well, so much for the developer... Only the first FEAR (and maybe the first add-on, I don't remember) was developed by Monolith... Others were developed by "someone-else-I-don't-remember-the-name", after Monolith abandoned Vivendi.
And You should not wait for the FEAR 2, it's Project Origin now (if someone accidentally still doesn't know) since the Vivendi took the Trademark FEAR from Monolith...
*PS. Hell, yeah, I'm the cockroach! I rule the Earth!*
