Eric Lindstrom, the creative director, among other TR-related staff, was one of the thirty employees of Eidos that were sacked recently. I can tell that Tomb Raider is now gonna see a complete, unneccessary fucking overhaul. Goddamn Eidos

Eidos once again is trying to ruin TR series
First they have killed it on PSX by releasing every new game yearly, therefore the games were very similiar to each other and felt rather like a missions pack than full games. Not to mentioned, when TR5 came up, it was outdated, both in graphical and gameplay terms. (it was still the same TR1 from 1996 with only smoother graphics and few new moves).
Then in 2006 Legend came out and it was a hit. Lara returned in all her glory and reviewers loved it, mainly because it was something new and fresh in TR series. And what did Eidos do? Next year they have released another TR game (Anniversary), and another year later - yet another TR game (Underworld).
I love all three TR games made by Crystal Dynamics (Anniversary ftw), but it is obvious that all those three games are exactly the same gameplay wise (with minor improvements here and there and two-three new moves), and problems that were present in Legend (clunky combat, camera) weren't fixed here. It's TR's PSX-era all over again.
If only Crystal Dynamics had more time to work on Underground and polish it, I believe most of issues would be fixed. TR doesn't need yet another overhaul, because the present formula is good, it just need to be polished (ie. fix the damn camera and get rid or change combat).Last edited by Mr_Zombie; 01-13-2009, 11:13 AM.

Mr Zombie, it was Angel Of Darkness mainly that killed Core Design. That game was atrocious. Also, I didn't see any problem with the storyline. Lara's mother was never featured left right and center, she was never the main conversation. You only heard about her when Lara is "interrogating" people. I was fine with the story.
Tyrant, I don't think this is related.

But seriously, they should sell the rights to some capable developer.
F*ck no, i'd rather see a pack of corporate whores like EA have a crack at LOK then see LOK handed back in Dennis Dyack's hands.

But, from what I've heard, the game was rushed too. There were lots of elements that were cut from the game (and that could be accessed through some hacking/codes/bugs).
My point was, and still is, there's no need to release a new Tomb Raider every single year (ok, Eidos needs this because they need money). Give the team a little time to think about fresh ideas, to fix problems found in previous games, to polish the game, to make it perfect and THEN release it.
A rushed game or a game made on a conveyer belt is a bad game.
And really, why do CD need to make only TR games. Why doesn't Eidos let them do a new IP, or revive another old IP (*cough* Soul Reaver *cough*)?Last edited by Mr_Zombie; 01-14-2009, 05:19 PM.
