  • Horror on the Wii

Well, as part of a discusion on various things I raised the point that there are various horror games heading to the Wii. Oh unbelievers, how can you doubt Dark? Why do you make me hurt you so? Here's what I can remember off the top of my head and through various searches.

Fatal Farem VI Curse of the Lunar Mask.
Dead Rising Chop till you Drop.
    House of the Dead: Overkill
    Sadness
    Cursed Mountain

Where as on the 360 and PS3 I think we're gertting...
    RE5
    Dead Island
    Alan Wake
    Heavy Rain
    Rainy Woods

Uhhh...I can't think of any more. Of course, Sadness may be delayed or scrapped, but then again Rainy Woods and Alan Wake are a touch iffy too. I don't think either list is especially complete. Wanna add to the relase list?

Anyone, point is the Wii is getting as many horror games as the other two systems. So I don't think it's safe to write it off as a kiddy system. But eh, that's just me. I own all three anyway.

    You know,

I know what you're saying, I own a 360 and a Wii too. My point is though, developers don't usually set out to make something specifically for the Wii. It's usually just ported. Like, I never expected to see RE5 on the Wii. Dead Space, stuff like that, all originally designed for the Wii. If you don't own a PS3 or 360, it's likely you'll miss out on a lot of good titles.

Yeah, I believe so. Heavy Rain is a big part of the reason I have a PS3, I gotta admit. I love Fareinheit.

And yeah, there are some games that clearly take the big advantage in raw power the PS3 and 360 offer. No debate there. If you don't have one or the other you'll miss out. The thing I'm finding is, though, that you can get away with owning one or the other. Whereas if you don't own a Wii you'll miss out on a lot of good titles that, while not as pretty, are still damned fine games. The Wii is so different to the others, and a lot of it's games are unique to it.

I don't consider Dead Rising, House of the Dead to be horror titles. Dead Rising had more of an old school arcade game than action adventure upon acquiring various melee skills.

For that matter, can one consider RE5 to be horror? Granted, it's closer to survival due to the random nature of ammo replenishment (I was completely out of ammo in one assembly run), but it's still not scary.

I have high hopes for Alan Wake and Heavy Rain, so hopefully they won't disappoint.

EDIT: Yeah, Heavy Rain is published by SCE and Alan Wake is published by MS.

Well, I went on the theory if it had an horrific theme it counted, even if it isn't that scary. Zombies count as horror for my mind.

RE5 =/= zombies. Don't put them in the same boat. It's demeaning. D:

Ideally you should get a Wii and either a PS3 or a 360. The majority of games are on both platforms, and there aren't enough exclusives to get both. I'm getting a PS3, but for blu rays, God of War 3, Killzone 2 and maybe that Little Big Planet game. The Wii is good for GameCube games and exclusive Wii titles, and either a 360 or PS3 for the games that the Wii can't cope with.

What about F.E.A.R 2? It certainly has more horror vibes than most of the games on that list. Speaking of which, it's out today.

Almost reason enough to buy a Wii >.>

I'm surprised there are that many horror games coming out, let alone so many coming to the Wii specifically!

Reading over the list again, how good does that "Dead Island" engine look. One screen I saw of all the foliage and it looked like the CryEngine2 or something! The zombies themselves look a little cartoony though, but I think that's most the texturing and the fact they're in bikinis and such...
