  • Dead Space: Extraction

You've heard rumours about a new Dead Space game for the Wii, well that game has now been confirmed. It's set during the evacuation of the Aegis VII mining colony, which interestingly places it more or less in same time frame as the animated comics.

In Dead Space Extraction, gamers will take on the role of an all-new heroine and join a group of colonists struggling to escape the infection that has corrupted the Aegis VII mining colony. In a release, revealed a few general details about the game, stating, "Dead Space Extraction introduces new characters, weapons, enemies, puzzles and cooperative multiplayer gameplay."
    Here's the trailer:

    Yes, it's an on-rails shooter.

"It doesn't look THAT bad" says the kid who never played RE: Umbrella Chronicles... but really, it doesn't look THAT bad, they can give some big scares on that game

I'm sure it will be better than UC, but damn with this game and more resident evil coming to wii I have to buy again that s*it of console...-_-

Well....that's disapointing. What do you do with a system that has the potential to make the slice and dice system of Dead Space awesome? Turn it into an action packed non-stop railshooter in a setting they've done twice already.

You see a lot of the colony in the comics, and a fair whack in the movie. There is not a whole lot left of that story to cover...especially given that

As much as I'd love to see a more "true to the gameplay style of the original" port/game, I honestly think the slice 'n dice can still play a very important role in crowd control (assuming this game will throw a lot of angry and upset bastards at you at the same time). Judging from the little there is in the trailer there, there certainly is limb detachment involved.

                Also, I guess it was only natural for them to make it this way;
"Dead Space plays like Resident Evil 4... Resident Evil sells on Wii... Rail Shooter should turn a profit easily..."

You guys are talking as if Umbrella Chronicles was a disaster It was a good game. This should be fairly fun as well, but I find it difficult to comment as I didn't really enjoy Dead Space to begin with.

...Well, Umbrella Chronicles hit all the wrong buttons for me. What little story it added was half taken from the movies and a lot of what was left was a bit silly. There's nothing scary about it either. Nor were there puzzles and exploration but, well, I'm not dumb enough to expect those from a rail shooter.

I felt Chronicles just generally failed to do what it was meant to. It was a poor summary of the early games, since it missed half the plot, and a lot of what was added was pointless (Hunk) wrong (Rebecca, Richard and the snake) or made something cool silly (Ada not dying). Add in that it was a lightgun game, a system I've never expecially enjoyed, and from what I've been told not an especially good one and it was pretty meh for me.

The fact I don't like light guns does make me biased against this as well, but I guess it will have limb dicing in it as well, so maybe it won't be all bad...but they milked the Aegis VII location and plot dry in the movie and comic. I honestly don't see what's left to be done there.

I really liked UC. I found the portrayal of established canon really poor, but nevertheless it was really fun. I liked the direction it took in regards to the whole Red/White Queen, UMF 013, and Wesker stealing the data. The add-ons to the story. The gameplay was really fun but storywise, other than what I just stated, was poor.

A lot of what I didn't like about Dead Space is that it was easy to get lost, and the gravity made me feel really topsy turvy. A simple rail shooter where I can just decapitate aliens might be more enjoyable.

I thought Dead Space was being ported to Wii?
So, this isn't a 2nd DS game for Wii but 'THE' DS game for Wii?
I still havn't got the 1st game (for my PS3). I thought the demo was okay but meh... I'll get it when it's a lot cheaper than a new game.

I quite like on-rails shooters when they are done well.
I might get it if it turns out good.

Easy to get lost? The game had a button that made Isaac not only turn in the right direction, but light up the path the next goal
Know what you mean about the gravity stuff, though. Surround sound helps a lot at making you more aware of your surroundings in that case (such as that stupid gravity basketball game... the noise the ball makes makes it very easy to track if you've got a proper surround sound system)

I'll probably get this, I loved the original game. Still never saw the movie still however.

I don't mind on rail shooters as long as they're done well and aren't utter crap so I'll keep my eyes on this.
