I think that the company OnLive will probably be bought by Microsoft or perhaps Google, the premise is interesting to say the least. This technology is probably the future of gaming, with ever advancing broadband speeds i don't think i's to far off either.

Imagine booting up your tiny 8" netbook and playing Crysis, the subscription or however they plan on charging for this will probably be quite high but the amount you will save on hardware will even it out, some.

I don't think OnLive as a company will get anywhere but i do believe that a powerhouse company will make this the future and i'm all for it

As it is now with service providers worldwide and the many nagging issues with bandwidth fluctuations and whatnot, this is far from a viable gaming solution.

Eurogamer had a good writeup on its current potential, which it to say that there isn't any. In the far future (in a decade or a little more), certainly, but now? Nope. 5Mbps (constant, which you know it's never steady) for 720p rendering feed and discrete 5.1 audio? Add the fact that there is bound to be control lag. The hands on impressions were promising but the servers were likely next door, and even then the games weren't running as smoothly as they would've on dedicated hardware.

I hope it flops so consoles are not obsolete, but the idea of millions of people downloading a game, like cyrsis, from one server is extreme for me because I believe the downloading process will crash the server extremely fast. The only good thing that may come out of OnLive is the unity of console gamers and pc gamers.

I doubt it will render consoles obsolete. Many gamers feel like me, they want something physical to show for their money. With OnLive there are too many things that can go wrong to stop you playing the games:

            - Lag, because not everyone has fibre-optic broadband and those that do, like me, will tell you that it rarely reaches the capabilities boasted about.

-Servers can and will break, usually at the worst possible time. So if their computers are wonky, i cant play my game.

-If it flops, there goes my games. At least if a console flops there is nothing to stop you playing the games you have bought. Not so with OnLive.

I cant see it replacing consoles, but with Microsoft already planning for an increase in Digital distribution for the 720, i can see the new version of Xbox Live having a much bigger marketplace, with new titles released as downloads too.

With this system we are forced to play games through internet connection, same games which we can actually play offline on my PS3 or Xbox 360? all this is absurd.

Pardon my ignorance, but don't we already have something like this with Steam?
                  See you in hell.

Well I guess it would be Steam, but you can use it on your TV.

No this isn't like Steam, the service doesnt download any game files at all. You log onto a service and it is processed at a server farm, which means your computer has no access to the files at all. The video is streamed from the server farm straight back to your machine at a hopefully extremely fast rate. (depending on connection speed)

Meaning that any machine with access to high speed internet could run the best of the best games with no problems at all, because all it's running is a live video feed.

Also describing this service, i just realised that if this is the future then it will completely destroy the mod scene DO NOT WANT
