Bionic Commando Demo Hits Xbox 360 Soon
Yup! Cat's out of the bag
Go! Go! Bionic!
Demo is out! What're you waiting for? Download and give it a swing? (Har har! See what I did there?)
Anyway, for those curious about the controls and too lazy to hold buttons pressed during the loading screen to see random wall of text I just wrote about about controls and random stuff you might find good to know;
LT = Wire
RT = Fire
LB = Evade
RB = Inventory
D-pad = Quick turn
LS = Move
RS = Aim (zoom if clicked)
A = Jump
B = Punch
Y = Heavy Punch
Back = Rankings
Movement:
General movement needs no explanation.
But if you hold the LB button pressed and press in a direction, you'll perform a roll. This is a nice evasive maneuver and also makes you a harder to hit target. You may also fire while rolling.
You can use the d-pad to quick turn in various directions.
The Swing:
Your Left Trigger is your arm of epic swings. When aiming around you'll notice how a swing reticle will show up when you're seeing in the direction of a target. The swing will always snap towards objects on the same vertical position as the center of your camera.
The reticle will turn bright blue when there's a solid object to attach to, red if you target an opponent and orange if you target a weapon pickup (note: the arm can only pick up weapons for you, not health bonuses)
Press and hold LT to extend the arm. Release the LT to release.
When swinging, you'll notice how you get a "/ \"-like thing fading in and out on your screen. This is a "perfect swing" indicator. If you release LT while this glows the strongest, you'll get the most forward momentum. Not exactly needed much in the demo, but good to know. (In the full game, the game will also rate your first 50-or-so swing attempts, telling you how far off you were to doing a "perfect swing," by telling you stuff along the lines of TOO EARLY, GOOD, PERFECT and TOO LATE)
Extending and Retracting the wire:
If you're attached to something you can adjust the length of your wire.
While attached to a surface, you can press A to pull in the line, pulling you towards the surface you're attached to. Press A after having pulled in the arm to do a simple jump
If you're attached to a wall, or surface, and you've got your feet connected to the wall or ground, you can adjust the length of the wire by just "walking"
If you're attached to an object, and you are floating mid-air but running short on wire, you can use B to extend the wire.
Melee:
You have quite a few melee attacks:
Zip Kick: Attach the wire to another player and then press A while you're mid-air. This will make you reel in the wire and kick them in the face/stomach/whatever, sending them flying. (If you kick someone off the map you get a kill for it)
Punches: Y and B can deliver punches. These work with a bit of area of effect, really. So as long as someone is somewhat close (and preferably in front) of you, you will hit them. Punches do a solid amount of damage, but the real treat is doing a combo. One is; press Y to throw someone up in the air, then press A to jump, this followed by a nice kick delivered by B. This, if landed successfully, will send the opponent(s) flying in the same way a zip-kick would.
Ground smash/Death from above: If you're mid-air from a high fall and tap Y, you'll initiate a death from above move. You'll make a ground smash that'll hurt anything near your impact area. The more furiously you tap Y, the more powerful it seems to get. This is pretty similar to the ground smash in Crackdown.
Firearms:
Shooting needs no explanation.
Weapons do damage, you can do headshots and so on to deal extra lethal damage. There's a rather huge spread on some of the weapons, this can be reduced with the zoom/aim mode (which will slow you down, a lot. So only use it when you feel it's "safe" or absolutely necessary to use it.)
Pistol: The default pistol will shoot as fast as you're able to pull the trigger. It's a lethal weapon, but in no way a substitute for the Machine Gun. However, the ability to fire really fast will make up for the spread and also make it terribly dangerous if you're able to land head shots with the aid of a zoomed aim.
Machine Gun: Does considerably more damage than the Pistol, even if you've got a fast trigger finger. It also has a smaller spread than the Pistol.
Shotgun: Shotguns need no further description, right? And, oh, when zip kicking: try to avoid zip kicking yourself into the barrel of one of these.
Grenade Launcher: Standard fast action grenade launcher. *Womp* *Boom*
Sniper Rifle: Your everyday sniper rifle. A weapon of many instant deaths and many wasted bullets. When using the zoom aim on it a laser sight appears that easily enables other players to see the sniper's location
Note: As previously mentioned, fire arms can be picked up from a distance via the use of the arm.
Note 2: If you carry multiple weapons, you can tap the RB to toggle between them or hold RB and use the right stick to quick select the one you want from your inventory.
Kills and points:
Game follows a typical "kill for a point and get yourself killed to get one point taking away."
Basic stuff. You also get a set of other experience/bonus points for killing people, chaining kills, and for killing with a bit of variety and style. Building a combo without your timer going out between the kills will build up a multiplier for your points. Someone might have more kills than you, but it's still much cooler to beat them in terms of points by maybe having x3 of what they have in terms of points. Just goes to show how boring and lame they are :p
Variety is the essence of awesome (being able to do something like killing someone mid-air with a death from above is pretty awesome)
