    Considering both games use the same engine and GECK with only the version numbers being different, yep it should definitely be possible. The time difference is negligible as both games are not really linked (based on what I've read). You could simply disable the main quest of FO3 and all references to the lone wanderer (already can be done with alternative start mod). If the merge is possible I'm sure it will become a sort of standard in the mod community (like the CALIBR ammunition mod which every mod uses). I see a lot of posts already saying they miss the Capital Wasteland etc so I think its a no-brainer (or so I hope cos I don't want to do it!).

      Well Scream, it looks like we might have to wait down the line on the DLC coming to this game.

      Bethesda’s just announced details on 360-exclusive DLC for Fallout: New Vegas.

      No details on the DLC itself were given, but the press release said the “first downloadable content” would be exclusive to Xbox Live, which seems to imply more would be coming to other consoles as well.

      Fuck. Oh well, I can wait.

        Not too interested in the DLCs at the moment to be honest. Nor am I interested in those pre-order bonuses (Caravan Pack, tribal pack etc). I haven't even finished some of the original Fallout 3 DLCs, the main game plus mods is good enough for me.

          they won't make it exclusive. Bethesda would be too much of an idiot to even try that move.

            Only DLCs I look forward to are the Broken Steel type ones.. gameplay expanders.. Only the developers can change such fundamental stuff so they should be working on that, couldn't give a crap about extra missions like Zeta etc, I can get those anywhere.

              I've been playing for a few hours now.. love the new optimised engine, hasn't crashed once since I started playing! It has that feeling of stability, whereas when I first got Fallout 3 I could almost anticipate the next crash. Iron sights adds a lot more feeling to the guns and the sound effects are better.

              I'm playing hardcore mode/normal. You can select hardcore mode after starting your character (you can't select it in the settings mode till later). It seems fairly easy to maintain the food/water/sleep stats (can even drink blood from a pool of it in a cave), it's a lot harder to keep your health up in fights now though (heals over time). Also the food/sleep stats aren't on the UI for some reason, maybe it pops up when your really hungry.

              It's more difficult to get into the character as you don't have the backstory of the father/mother etc like FO3, but I guess that will take some time.. The rest of the world is well made and the writing/quests much better. Different types of ammo is a great new feature, hollow point and piercing etc. I don't think even FO3 mods had that (maybe WMK but I didn't try). Also it tells you when your firing at something your gun is not really effective against. Overall, the gameplay experience seems quite polished so far (as it should be). The new radio music is better too IMO, not sure about the DJ will have to listen more.

                Thanks for the initial impressions, Scream. Hopefully mine will arrive today or it should tomorow (PAL land is fun land!) and then I can jump back into the wasteland. How has the ambient music been for you during oyur journey; anything that gives the feeling of the previous fallout titles?

                  The ambient music sounds rather similar to the previous games - creepy and depressing. You'll need to turn on the radio to cheer yourself up - JINGLE JANGLE! It also changes more depending on what your doing.

                  I like the environment and feeling of the game. I didn't think I would like the Vegas wasteland as much but it's an improvement in terms of design over the wasteland of FO3 I would say (at least so far).

                  As for difficulty, I might turn it up to hard. Hardcore/normal seems a bit easy at the moment. Enemies cause a lot more damage but if you stay away from them you can take them down without much trouble. It gets trickier when you encounter a group of convicts in an enclosed area, which is why I chose all the rapid fire traits. My accuracy is lower but I look like a bad ass when I'm using that Varmint bolt action rifle against a ton of enemies and reloading super fast. The combat is a lot more varied and you'll be using more items and stuff than FO3.

                  Some things that I don't like are mostly just things from vanilla FO3, like the way weapons just fall apart as your holding them and waaaay too much XP and good loot. I got like 200 XP, new NCR rifle, armor piercing rounds, weapon repair kits just for taking out like 5 giant ants (which look smaller than the ones in FO3). Roffles. In FO3 modded my XP earned was reduced by like 80%..

                  By the way, if anyone is playing on PC, here is how to get almost zero crashes..

                  1. Upgrade video card drivers (obvious)
                  2. Use the guide here to sort out your audio codecs: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/article...cle.php?id=174 FO3 engine seems very sensitive to audio, you'd be surprised at how often a crash is related to audio problems.
                  3. Turn off all auto save options. Never load a save in-game and do not use quick saves. If you die, quit to the main menu and load a save that way. Keep at least 5 previous saves to go back to.

                    Nice thoughts on the world, I can't wait to play this (hopefully today if I can) when my collector's edition arrives in the mail.

                    Also this is worth noting for PC players here if they are having issues too
                    fallout.ini and falloutprefs.ini found in documents>my games>falloutnv folder

                    Increase FPS on multicore systems:
                    In fallout.ini
                    Find the line: bUseThreadedAI=0
                    change it to: bUseThreadedAI=1
                    Add another line after it and insert: iNumHWThreads=2 (or 4 for quad)

                    Remove Mouse Acceration:
                    In falloutprefs.ini add this under [controls]:
                    fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
                    fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
                    fForegroundMouseBase=0

                    Change the Field of View:
                    In fallout.ini
                    Ctrl+F "fov" and change that shit to 90.

                      . Not sure if this is the only one or there are more later.. I guess the latter..

                        My PC CE is sitting here, and I can't play it until tomorrow. Thanks, Steam! ;(

                        Guess I'll read up and prepare for tweaking and stuff to get better performance tomorrow.

                          Same here but the collector's edition is damn good looking if I'd say so, and the graphic comic that comes with it is some good material to set it up. Damn you steam!

                            Finished the first major "dungeon". Or should I say my first major dungeon (the world is big). Awesome.. such a wide variety of quests going on, and none that play on a typical good/evil morality system.

                              Many impressions praise it's akin to the experiance and writting quality of a true fallout title (fallout 2 is mentioned a lot) so I really can't wait to play this. Also here's a few more tweaks I am posting so they can help out to us, and also to keep tabs on them here without having to spend some time looking for them again;

                              Essential UI adjustments for Fallout: New Vegas. Smaller fonts, larger item selection areas, improved conversation menus, etc. Designed for screen resolutions of 1024x768 and higher.

                                Yeah the UI mod is recommended to get rid of the console-like stuff. I wonder if Darn is working on a UI mod again.

                                Performance-wise, there is this fix that seems to help some people and cause probs for others: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloa...e.php?id=34778

                                But I would say this engine is much more optimised, they really fixed it up. Not sure you will even need to tweak it much, I didn't.

                                I would recommend better binoculars (http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloa...e.php?id=34715) - the ones in-game only have a zoom level of x4.

                                Would be careful with the no auto aim fixes (http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloa...e.php?id=34723), they haven't really been tested. The auto-aim seems to be two-fold, changing the direction of the bullet towards the crosshair and then towards the limbs/body. You won't want to remove the first part as every weapon fires in a different direction.

                                Anyways, I'm going to avoid using any mods until I've finished the game.
