  • Yeah I just finished the game too with NCR. Ending credits were nice. No real reward for hardcore mode, maybe it will come with the DLC. I guess the DLC will pick up where we left off as you still get XP at the end.

What kinda direction do you think they will take the DLC? I'm hoping for a level 40 expansion if they can balance it right somehow. I'll make a new character when the DLC arrives, I still have a lot more to do such as BoS quests (I wiped them out this turn), Legion etc.

As for FO4, I hope they will improve NPC/object interaction and the UI. As you said the speech check isn't perfect, it should be able to accept more input somehow... And opening boxes is getting old the way its currently set up, I'm almost sick of that green pop up item menu after 50 hours of play. Lol at just two options take all/exit. There's a mod for item sorter in the pipboy but it ain't very pretty...

The steal system needs reworking.. I took some ammo from NCR box on the last mission and NCR troops shot me down, right.. like they would really care about that as they were getting swamped by legion. Anyways, I'm going to wait for some decent mods to come out now..

    • I've taken a few days off work to indulge in this, but it's not nearly enough... It's games like this that make me wish I was unemployed.

I was concerned about the game's stability but so far it's been good (PS3). I've put in nearly 20 hours and I've only had the one crash (it froze after about 10 hours).
However Fallout 3 GOTY edition was ok at first. It was only after spending 50-100 hours and growing a massive save file, that the frequent problems began. I'm hoping that's not the case with New Vegas.

Really enjoying the game, even though it's basically more of the same. I'm still hoping to discover a wider variety of clothing etc. But just exploring everywhere and doing what you want is so damn addictive.

Life is never enough I'm afraid.. But if it were any different I'm sure you would have a different opinion

        • Back from a small holiday so I can continue where I have left off after Vault 11 (for the BoS) and I'm glad I got plenty of hours to still soak this in. Looks like you've spent some huge hours on these few days so far in the week I see, Scream

          • I loved Fallout 3 it's in my top 5 Ps3 games so as you can imagine I had great expectations for NV. The first 3 hours of the game I was well impressed. The graphics are a tiny bit better and loved the new scenary, weapons, characters and such. However I am now up to 17 hours of gameplay time and I have changed my opinion. I thought Fallout 3 was bad for glitches but NV takes the piss. The game has only frozen up on me the 1 time but its the other glitches that are annoying me. There are several missions that you cant complete because there is a glitch and you literally cant finish the mission.

Also the map is really pissing me off telling me to go places then when I arrive there it has changed its mind and is telling me to go elsewhere. I find the game alot harder than Fallout 3. I have died as many times as I did in Fallout 3 and Im only about half way through. I have some very good weapons such as machine gun grenade launcher, magnums, shotguns. When I hit the enemies with these weapons it takes hardly any health off them. Also the V.A.T.S. system is completley useless. I relied on V.A.T.S. alot during Fallout 3. In NV I use the V.A.T.S. one time and then thats it. I tried taking Jet, getting loads of sleep nothing seems to work.

To be honest I cant wait to finish it and get it over with so I can sell it on and buy a different game. I much prefer Fallout 3 I think its an overall better game all round. The story was better, the locations, characters and scenary. The only thing I think NV has done better is the range of weapons and items. Apart from that I'd take Fallout 3 anyday.

            Fallout 3 8/10
            Fallout NV 6/10

            • I encountered bugs with the mask society at new vegas. A good way to avoid it is to Spoiler:
otherwise the shit will follow you around and get in the way. I haven't experienced any other bugs on the PC version. Especially after the latest patches, you got a patch on PS3 right?

Actually, I thought I went through it rather slow.. users on other forums seemed to know everything on almost the first day. Not that I looked.. much Mod scene is a little dry without FOMM, fose and a working fonvedit, I think I will leave the game until the DLC comes out, at which point Albert Wesker the medicine man will be reborn to save the world from both NCR and Legion!

Yeah I got a patch the first day it was released. Just completed the game about 20 minutes ago. The main story is way to short in my opinion. The last mission was a right pain in the ass to. You pick up some cool weapons but the glitches make it so annoying and totally take out the fun factor. Im glad its over. Will decide over the next few days wether to complete it again or sell it on.

                  • You mean 1 and 2? New Vegas is closer to them than Fallout 3 was, thanks to having a good chunk of Black Isle working on it. Soul crushing glitches on release and all.

                    • I like how New Vegas has better developed factions, though sometimes you get the feeling there is always a faction around the corner while doing absolutely anything. I don't think it pulls off the isolation of a normal wastelander as well as FO3 does. The world is probably a bit too small, if it were bigger it might be a different story... I didn't really play the game just for the main quest, I just like doing C between point A and point B.

                      • I got my Wesker character ready for DLC. It's a hybrid template, he's great at unarmed/melee (gotta love one-hit unarmed kills) and can use guns too. Had to use some intense training perks to make him a better hybrid char though. I made him a "lady killer" to see some more dialogue options. I'm playing on very hard this time and the deathclaws are quite tough... I can take them out unarmed if Rex is there but otherwise the sniper rifle is best.

Not sure its worth selecting any DT perks btw, on very hard a lot of critters can cut through it so easily it seems.

I also made my first GECK mod for new vegas - it's an alcohol drink called "Tequila Shot". It uses the shot glass model. If your endurance is 6 or above and you drink it you get +4 STR and +4 CHR - but if its below 6 (aka can't handle your drinks) you'll get knocked out onto the floor permanently Don't think I'll post it on Nexus though.

                        • After many many hours with the game I have concluded it is very poorly designed, and I don't mean technically.

Missions are not very open in how you complete them, some having only a single method and many having only A or B as options. FO3 had so much more freedom.

The games -requires- to many skills just to access some quests, or to complete them, or to have some freedom in what you do (which is limited already). Science, speech, lockpick should give options for quests, not be mandatory to even try them.

The perk system is just horrible also, copy and pasting perks from FO3 when they've so drastically changed skill sources in New Vegas just makes all sorts of mess ups, like I made and Unarmed character and wanted Ninja perk for the better criticals, but to use it I need raise sneak (for sneak attacks) and melee both very high. It isn't worth the investment of points into melee, same with concentrated fire, raising both guns and energy skills so high is pointless and also awkward if you don't want to be closing off quests for the first 60% of levels due to lack in science etc.

This is less of an issue once you star hitting the early 20s but by then most of the game should be done, and you could have used some perks a long time before.

Faction armours being mostly the only good ones besides the top power armours is boring also since they are a pain to wear and travel freely. I find the nearest Recona rmour and just roll with it start to finish almost (I will note it is odd recon armour with a +sneak mod is medium weight and not light).

Last but not least, Freeside should be renamed Freezeside. I swear one out of three trips to the northern part results in a freeze.

                          • I agree somewhat the game is poorly designed (including FO3), but not on the points you raised. I really enjoyed having the chance to actually use some skills in-game - and having at least 8 intelligence usually gives you enough points to be good at almost everything at an early stage. My second time through I left my guns on 38 until level 23 or so and raised unarmed/melee, I still used guns most of the time though. I never raise energy gun skills unless thats my character's primary weapon.

Mmm, just finished some new mcdonalds deluxe burger... actually has good bread that doesn't fall apart..

Anyways, I think of Fallout as more of an experience than a game. Just like the tag-line says "America's First Choice in Post-Nuclear Simulation". Take MMORPGs for example, a type of simulation, they are a hundred years behind most games in terms of actual gameplay but you still enjoy the experience. It's the same sort of thing for FO... If that makes any sense at all to you

                            • Looks like Fallout: Vegas has become a huge hit this year!

Bethesda's shipped a whopping five million units of science-fiction role-playing game Fallout: New Vegas.

This, coupled with a "healthy volume of digital downloads", generated well over $300 million in sales.

Remember, shipped means shipped, as in sent to shops and other retailers. But still, five million's an impressive number.

"We are delighted by the reception Fallout: New Vegas has received from fans around the world," said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda.

"Despite the large launch quantities for this title, we have already received substantial re-orders from our retail partners, underscoring the tremendous popularity of this highly entertaining game. We believe Fallout: New Vegas will be the must buy title for gamers throughout the holiday season."
A real fallout title (in spirit and true form of the original rpg games) Deserved these sales for such a great job. Sucks though that the consoles version have to pend patches to fix the bugs.

                              • So: This is the glitchiest game I have ever played. Ever. Every time I play the game, I play for about 5 or so hours. I actually only get 3 or 4 hours of play time from the fucking thing crashing and loosing the mission I was doing. Or having to run to Vault 22 and getting my companions back, who've gotten lost. Or running from a monster that will not die.

A few days ago, I was pretty sick. The day after I picked up New Vegas and started playing it again, but forgot to save. Now, what happened is partially my own fault. I took a run at what is essentially a artillery range to grab a holotape and then, after grabbing it, I fast travelled away from the mass detonations and the argh.

You guys see where this is going, don't you?

I fast travelled to Scorpion Gulch, because it was the closest place I had visited to where I needed to go. So I'm surrounded by some bark scorpions and a Giant Radscoprion. OK, not great, since we were still hurt from the artillery, but I stimmed myself and my allies nice and quick. Veronica was in full Brotherhood Power Armour, I was in Combat Armour, our weapons were good...we could take them fairly easily.

The fuck we could. They wouldn't die. Each of them was on zero hit points, not one dropped. I ran through about twenty stimpacks, plugging away with a plasma rifle, and then a nasty rocket launcher, since Veronica and Rex were long since down, and eventually tried running away. But there is no escape from brain hungry zombie scorpions. I was cornered, killed and consumed.

Ah well. At least I had the autosave. Which started...with me getting blown apart by an artillerly shell. And then reloaded me getting hit by said shell. Apparently, I'd fast travelled away milli seconds before my inevitable demise. Worse still, because I wasn't in great shape, I'd forgotten to save the game. So, five hours of play, gone, because of zombie scorpions and my own forgetfullness.

Fuck you New Vegas. Fuck you too. I've stopped playing since that one, too frustrated by the glitches to play. Fallout 3 wasn't a fraction as bad as this. Of course, I'm an idiot with the PS3 version, so...
