We heard that after MGS2, and after MGS3... teaser for MGS4 even used the phrase "there's no place for Kojima"... and after MGS4 Kojima once again stated, that he wants to move on and start working on a different game. And here we are again, next Kojima's game... Metal Gear [Solid].
It's not that I'm unhappy with next MGS game, I love to see what it will be about, but at least Kojima could just shut up and stop repeating himself how much he would like to pass MGS game to some else.
Give the guy a break. He obviously wants to leave the series to hands he can trust, and apparently Konami doesnt have anyone up to his standards. Last thing we need is MG and MGS turning into the same pile of incoherent crap RE did.

If I had to write a timeline on MGS right now, it would be a lot easier than to do it for RE, despite REs plot being a lot shallower. The fact that with MGS4, the plot feels complete, with no loop- or plotholes, also speaks for itsself. The only "problem" (if that can even be called a problem), is that the games, individually, are too big, story-wise. And I understand, a lot of people just want to shoot some shit up. But just because the stories are so widespanning, doesnt mean they are incoherent.
Not to be sounding like a fanboy, but the reason for disliking MGS games (and Kojima) so far has been all about people needing to differentiate themselves from whats popular.

And there are plenty of plotholes and inconsistencies in MGS4, and now for the whole series, in fact, when you consider how much crap Kojima retconned to make the "story" in MGS4 work, and it still fails miserably.

See, the fact that people start at MGS and exclude Metal Gear and Solid Snake is already a sign of selective canon to decrease the amount of issues between the games.
Konami need to do more Ac!d-like stuff. Stand-alone stories using familiar + original characters, in completely stand-alone scenarios that work perfectly fine as they rely on no past or external knowledge and has no room for clusterf**ks, unless its own narrative is a leaking f**k bucket.

Why? Ever since I started visiting RE forums, Ive seen this happen. The most obvious example is people almost unanimously dishing the whole FPS genre.
People disliking popular things is not as uncommon as you think.
Ive played all MGS games (apart from noncanonical titles) a number of times and I dont really remember any major retcons or plotholes. The ones that struck out were Liquid Ocelot (Liquids hand vs cybernetic hand) and Para-Medics issue. One was explained just as well as was the other. Ocelot ditched liquids hand because it was taking control over him and Para-Medics male/female mixup was a Japanese translation error.
Really, the fact that theres little discussion on MGS franchise in forums tells that theres simply nothing to ask, nothing that is unclear. I can understand when people dont like the games, but thats a matter of taste.

You know what I'd like to see in the next Metal Gear game? No more camouflage index, no more OctoCamo. Just you and your environment, sticking to corners, crawling under things and using cardboard boxes and the like to avoid detection. MGS3 and MGS4 made it way too easy to avoid detection. I wanna feel scared when I see a guard coming my way, instead of just saying "OH LOL" and magically blending in to my environment.
OctoCamo was cool and all, but I'd just like to go back to the way things were in MGS1 and MGS2.

I beat ZoE1 but not 2, played though a bit of it...like both of em
yeah chris, I would like it just to be hide and run, no mixing into the environment....
does anyone think, if there is Spoiler:
time travel involved that it could well possibly change the way snake looks or change history all together? As in MGS4 never took place kinda thing. I was always intrigued by the Time Paradox in MGS3 where you can kill Ocelot or Eva.Last edited by Daargoth; 05-27-2009, 07:42 PM.

I agree with that idea, Chris. While I enjoyed MGS3, and keeping in mind I never got the chance to play MGS4, Sons of Liberty was great without all of those cumbersome camo and injury mechanics. Really Kojima should just implement new ways of interacting with the environment and manipulating sentries, as a function of the player, and not Snake's gear. All of the destructible materials (bottles, magazines, etc) in MGS2 didn't affect the guards IIRC, it was only sound. Plus, the breakable stuff was mostly limited to the Tanker chapter, it seemed like Kojima designed the Big Shell to be a point A to B affair. Perhaps my memory's shot.
