This was on my 'maybe list' but I had my doubts...
I've been seeing commercials on tv for it and it's been available for a few days but I hadn't read any reviews. This is always a BAD sign!
It's like they have something to hide. "Let's heavily promote and sell the game, before word gets out about how shit it is".
Today I read a few reviews, starting with a 5.5 at Gamespot. The average press rating so far is 6.7.
I know reviews aren't everything but they are often some sort of indication. I thought the game looked like it might be a bit crappy and now the reviews havn't helped improve my views.
The problem seems to be that AVP is stuck in 1999 and that FPS titles have evolved and AVP hasn't bothered to try doing so. Also given this then the game will be the best it can on the PC.

-... where its really just a terrible console port with some of the worst features you could think of. Maybe the mod teams will clean this mess up, but considering the fact that modding today is tenfold the work it was 6 years ago, I wouldnt hold my breath.
I knew this would happen, from the very first image.

People keep throwing this statement out there, but I'm still struggling to see how it's stuck in 1999, and even if that is true, then what's the problem honestly? And that's not me disagreeing with you, I just don't get the statement. Is it how the game is structured? The enemy AI? The gunplay? Graphics? Animation? Presentation? What aspect is stuck in 1999?
The reviews really are all over the place on this one. A ton of them mention lacklustre graphics and bad controls, both of which I don’t see (based on the PC version at least). A few of them also mentioned the short length of the campaigns, but all three combined sound to be around the same length as Modern Warfare 2, if not longer. And like that game, the main focus here is multiplayer for myself and several other people I’ve heard talk about the game.

You could tell gameplay details from a vague game reveal screen? I’m damn impressed, where’d you learn that skill?
And really, PC gaming is full of console ports now. AvP is, from what I’ve seen and heard, not a terrible console port. It runs solid, looks better and has refined controls on PC, along with dedicated servers. Terrible additions, just fucking terrible.
And these “worst features” you speak of, mind listing them?
I love each elitist post you make more than the last. You pop in, shit on something, give no reason why and pop back out. Fan-fucking-tastic. Great addition to the community, I’m glad we have you back.

I'd prefer it if we kept personal attacks/bait out of a gameplay debate if possible. This comment served no purpose other than to drag another member into an argument.

Experience. Considering you claim the controls are "fine" for the PC version, its fairly obvious you have none.
Youre just overreacting, the moment people hear someone say "terrible console port", they think its an "elitist PC nerd" claiming consoles are crap. No, a bad console port is exactly what it is, just that. No elitism. I couldnt care less if it was multiplatform. It was a sequel to one of the most impressive games in the genre and Im usually way more critical when it comes to games Ive liked.
Call of Duty 4 is a console port, and its one of the best multiplayer games ever made, period, PC or not. Whether a game is a bad console port or not has nothing to do with platform preference.

A) Then youve "seen and heard" it from the wrong crowd.
B) If you havent played it on PC yet, the first thing you would notice is mouse acceleration.
C) The demo is still running on P2P, and the press release regarding the release of DS for the retail game said that the DS files are in beta stage (obviously not planned), again- this might sound elitist at first glance, but P2P is synonymous with "immense lag".

Seriously...
Lets just chalk it up as a misunderstanding. Ive been critical about this game for a very long time, from the first screenshots featuring the Predators double blades, the temple/jungle setting and the doubt increased with each video. It has nothing to do with which platform the game is on or from. Hell, I went for a round in Demo unsuspectingly because Ganado told me the game had dedicated servers.

Yeah everything basically. I'm not saying it's entirely wrong... it's just that really at the end of the day you're only playing this for the license. It feels exactly like the game that they released 11 years ago in a graphics package from three years ago. And if thats the case then yeah, I could just download the 1999 version of Steam and save me some cash.
The map style and general gameplay is unimproved from 1999 which is great if every thing else out there was too, but I hate to think FPS titles haven't made some steps forward in the past 11 years that shouldn't have impacted on how the game operates.
In respect to the PC edition, I personally believe it will come out tops because the controls and visuals will be better. The console editions, the controls are quite sluggish and clunky, the visuals are not as good as other titles out there but the PC gets the better looking visuals with upgraded DirectX support.
The game promoted freedom in some respects, but takes it away... ie. Give the Predator the ability to jump from location to location, but there are areas visible that you should be able to jump to clearly visibly. AI is very hit and miss in the 3 SP campaigns to the point where some battles are hard for no reason and some that should be hard are a cake walk, and really it's all about the MP which to me has been the best part. But great games provide a balance of both modes. Which AVP doesn't.
I've been keen to play this from first announcement (and I hope Sega still releases the Colonial Marines title too) and I still purchased the game, but sadly it was not as good as all the videos promised it would be and as I expected it would.
