That gameplay element was awful and very distracting (during Carla's dialogue with a doctor at morgue I haven't heard anything because I was focused on those things :/).

It starts as Murder Mystery, then slowly turns into Paranormal Thriller and ends as Matrix meets Dragon Ball .
I'm still intrigued, i think Ill try it out if i find it anyway, although that does look very distracting.

In fact, by the end of the show I felt like there's still a little hope left, what with Metroid: Other M and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Found it kinda hard to get into the first SMG, though, I still dunno why, I think the Wiimote use felt a bit too gimmicky). Plus, despite not showing it at the conference, I'm eagerly anticipating Sin and Punishment 2 (Seriously, Reggie, you decided to show off "Women's Murder Club" instead of that!? For shame. ).

I still need to see the whole Microsoft conference, but this whole "Natal" thing seems kinda lame to me. MGS:R didn't particularly seem like a "must-buy" for me, but then again I've never gotten to play any of the other Metal Gear games (sans Ghost Babel for the Gameboy Color). Left 4 Dead 2 looks neat, but I can't understand the need for it; It's coming out one year to the day that the first game was released, and I would have though Valve would have kept adding expansions like they've been doing with Team Fortress 2. It just strikes me as odd.

Alan Wake seems pretty awesome, and despite not being too big on FPS's, I'll be giving Modern Warfare 2 a shot when it comes out.

As for Sony: Well, I've never owned any Sony consoles, but God of War III, The Last Guardian, and MGS: Peace Walker all look really neat.

Actually, I'm a bit upset about the vital sensor not really being shown put to use either. Suda51(?) seemed to be interested in it when he saw it. And I totally see how it can be put to use in a lot of stuff (Again, go play Bio Tetris on the N64 for a quick sample). Personally, I think a horror game would be the perfect way to go for it, but many other games could also be used with it.
ONly thing I don't like is that it currently just plugs directly into the Wii Remote's expansion port, leaving no room for extra peripherals (nunchuk or classic controller). Hopefully there'll be some sort of "hub" or something that you could clip these things through (or a new wireless nunchuk)

As for Women's Murder Club, fits in with the casual image, I suppose. Seeing that it's based on a license from a book author who's sold more books than Treasure's probably ever sold games. Could be interesting to some... probably for more people than Sin & Punishment 2 (Though, I too am upset about the lack of games shown at Nintendo's conference... they should've at least made some sort of hefty and gigantic montage!)

                    [edit]
Also, I still think Kojima's probably got nothing to do with the new Castlevania. They've probably just slapped his name on it to boost the image of the title. If anything, he might just be overseeing it so he knows what to rip-off while doing Rising)

You have the Sony PlayStation logo and a Sony PlayStation game in your avatar.

I thought Kojima wasn't working on MGS:R, he said he didn't like it and was against making it. If his name has been stuck on anything it's MGS:R.

                      • Kojima was a lot better in his earlier days, even if he borrowed liberally from pre-existing franchises. That's part of the charm, the fact that he took something that already existed and changed it into something new and different. Nowadays he's little more than the George Lucas of the games industry, riding a gravy train one-track franchise, strutting about wearing leather jackets and thinking his shit don't stink.

He's like the high school geek who was bullied throughout his cirricular life and had finally been given the break he "deserved all along" and now seeks to rub his self-righteous success in the faces of everyone else. I also hate the fact that his fans seem to attribute the success of MGS all to him, as though it's all his work. What about all the programmers and the rest of the staff who worked so hard on the games?

                        What a prick.

                        • Dont be hating the playa, hate the game. Ive already said my piece on why Kojima is hated (people hating popular things and people not getting that its not easy to let go of your lifes work).

Spencer, do YOU even know the coders, scripters, artists, mappers of your favourite franchise?

Without sounding like a jerk- nowadays you can *easily* replace the workforce. The hardest part is to get the right captain for the ship and crew. Kojima deserves every prop hes getting, whether hes an "asshole" is highly questionable and subjective. With so many people to choose from, the most difficult part would be to find the talent and vision. Not only are more and more people choosing videogame industry as their career area, modding has become a popular hobby, and I cant even measure how popular photobucket has become. Digital media and available information has given a lot of opportunities for a lot of people to become self-made videogame developers (even though Im not going to count how many of them have been fvcked by the likes of EA, hahaha).

Seriously now. How can you dish the man, while praising RE5 Versus mode? I would be ashamed and commited seppuku after that selfcontradiction.

And no. Kojima is not my favourite in the industry. If I wanted to ride someones nutsack, it would only be John Sonedecker, but considering the elitist attitude of the RE community towards FPS games, that name is hardly known to anyone in this area.

Also, CS was getting way more people playing it at any given time than all the RSE game put together.

If you put all that together I could see a management and marketing team wanting to make a franchise more “accessible” and more “mainstream”. Is it a right or wrong choice? That’s not my decision. But, if my company had the same dilemma I would have possibly split the franchises into 2 paths….. One for the “die hards” and one for the mainstream. Of course that brings up another issue of money.

I wish John Sonedecker made RE games.

Also i quite like FPS games, it used to be my favorite genre as a kid.

                            • elitist huh?So not wanting RE to become an fps makes you elitist?Actually from what I've seen most people here like the fps genre they just don't want RE to become a generic fps.And it has more to do with the fact that KOJIMA himself has constantly said he was done with MGS or tired of directing it...

                              • Thanks for proving my point twofold. You asked if I wanted RE to turn into an FPS as if an FPS was bad. And, RE already is an FPS, just without the strafing function.

For years, the general opinion on RE forums has been that every FPS is the same, unoriginal, seen-that-done-that trash with only a few gems. In most cases, its purely prejudice, opinion without experience.

Just saying, its an odd and peculiar observation.
