Well, they asked valve that question and their response was this....

GamesRadar+ takes you closer to the games, movies and TV you love.

It would have been awesome if it was for the PS3 too

While i agree that it probably is a little bit too early to be bringing out L4D2, i have found the fan outrage towards the game to be absolutely hysterical. There is a 25,000+ strong Steam group calling for a mass boycott of L4D2, and one read of their supposed 'manifesto' is enough to make you tear up out of embarrasment. Someone should really inform the administrators of that group that they aren't revolting against racism or fascism, they are complaining about a planned sequel to a video game. Videogames aren't life, as fun as they are, and there is absolutely no reason to get so self righteous as if they are are Martin Luther King incarnate or something. Some members there even compared the 'revolt' to how Rosa Parks stood up to racism. It's pathetic.

^ It sounds really pathetic. Just as much as when people complained about RE5 being racist....

Except that in this case the reason to complain is actually valid.

Its uncharacteristic of Valve to sell expansion pack materials for full price.

There's more content than what the first game has had, including updates, to warrant it to sell for a full game in their view, considering how huge the game sold at retail with the first game making over 3 million. It’s the matter of quality/quantity to see if the game was worth the purchase and there’s no mistake that they know it’s going to sell like hot cakes again, while continuing both download content support for both games (but for how long for the first title, after the SDK and other content support is just a matter of time).

It’s something Valve, for a first time, to release a year game title, but when you look at their purchase with Valve south (was turtle rock studio who created the first left4dead game) and their decision on wanting to make another game soon after, could this be a continuing main-stream series for pc/consoles?

Every last bit of content there is, is EXP pack grade and does not warrant full price. Its the same engine, with a few minor tweaks. The scenarios are the only thing that can be considered new, and its precisely the kind of stuff youd expect from a patch, DLC or EXP pack. I know you like Valve, but sometimes you just take everything youre given, the way its given.

Noone is claiming that the game is going to suck, but the fact is that the development costs for the sequel are going to be significantly lower, the content in the same grade and theres no reason to hit the market with a full price.

Its just not the way they are expected to act, considering what they did with Orange Box.

So simply having new areas and enviroments, a new story, new characters, new enemies and new weapons is no longer enough for a new game? You have to rebuild the engine from the ground up or it's not worthy of being a sequel?

Honestly, I'm looking foward to this. I won't buy it new (hell, I still haven't bought Left for Dead yet...I like my games cheap) but then I very rarely do. I like the sound of some of the new stuff though.

Most of it is really only new textures. Mod teams and modders do this for free. Theres a significant difference between creating a game ground up and then creating a game using existing resources and materials.

Have you ever considered that a lot of that "new" content may actually be left-overs from L4D?

I see no harm in buying left4dead 2 at the price I bought the first game, considering the value it's giving me more content than the first game did at release. I'm just saying I think this series will perhaps a long-running series and will be a huge commercial success for them because of this. Would this follow for their previous IPs, I doubt it (just have to look at the development cycle for half life 2 episode 3 already).

Valve has always been good with continuous support for their games, and even bundles and offers with steam and the orange box, I even see another box next year to bundle with portal 2 and episode 3. I just think Left4dead is something different to them, and it doesn't hurt to buy the game to have fun with friends, like the number of hours I have with the first, no? People can always wait until the price is lower or when valve do their special offers on steam and just continue to play left4dead 1 with community maps and other downloadable content that will go down the pipe line. What is really the harm for a game, with just as much content as the first title, but expanded in all areas (more weapons, “AI 2.0” more maps, new modes), and playing it at release. I just think it’s good that I get to play this sooner rather than later with friends at the end of this year and have a blast.

It's uncanny for valve to release a sequel in just a year's production, but I am not going to let that stop me from having fun. On the trivial side however, this seems more "episodic" than the half life episode series already, ha-ha.

Have you ever considered that a lot of that "new" content may actually be left-overs from L4D?
I see the content being a combination of both assets from left4dead2 and more improvements to community tools for the first title, but the rest has just to be remained seen. It's valve, who the fuck knows, but Gabe promises for continuous support, like it has always been their philosophy, and they have a good track record on this with their existing titles. However, a sequel after a year just rises the question if it will using existing assets from 2 or if it’s new content. A very unorthodox situation.

And besides. It's always fun to kill zombies with your friends

If it RROD then Microsoft will repair it for free. It's the other flaws in the machine you need to be weary of, such as the one where mine stopped showing pictures. It was most annoying since there was no RROD and they wouldn't fix it.
