Don't get too excited, the EE isn't even the main problem. The Graphic Synthesizer is the real bitch.

waste of time. considering that the PS3's Emotion Engine can't play every PS1 or PS2 game normally. some play terribly on the PS3. People should just go buy a PS2 (unless you already have one, just use that one instead, seriously).

I sense something akin to "xbox originals" where they release specific ps2 titles that would work via PSN

I wish Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo would merge into one big company and cooperate to release the ultimate console: the Playboxii.

Powerful (PS3), great games (Xbox), and heaps of gimmicky features (Wii).

I have a 60GB launch model PS3 with PS2 bacwards compatibility. Final Fantasy X looks absolutely awful on it, it looks slightly better than a PS1 game.

                and Silent Hill 3.

backwards compatibility is only good on a SDTV. An HDTV with upscaling to 1080p on the PS3 for old games is shit in general. it does not, i repeat, it does not make things look better. you cannot make a game that has been made for SDTV, look better on an HDTV.

movies are different, because DVDS are known to be mastered in high definition, so the quality is able to be better - sometimes.

It's a term used a few years ago and was a bit deceiving. Basically, the source material was remastered in HD and cleaned up then on the DVD itself, it's mastered standard 720X480.

Compared to a properly mastered HD source at 1920x1080, the difference is quite large.
