Well I sure hope its true!

Its pretty much everything many of the TR fans wanted with Tomb Raider Underworld. Since Tomb Raider has been down on its luck with the media and gamers in general, I guess this was a logical step in where to go next.

M Rated, more combat, and action.

Gah, I can't stand when people compare these two series. Uncharted and Tomb Raider are two completely different games. They're thematically similar, but that's about it.

Uncharted is a third person shooter with some light platforming and puzzle elements. Tomb Raider is a platformer/puzzle game with some light shooter elements. Tomb Raider places a much greater focus on exploration, while Uncharted is a largely linear experience.

If you want to play a shooter that's light on the exploration, puzzle solving, and platforming, play Uncharted. If you want to play an adventure game heavy on platforming, exploration, and puzzle solving, but light on combat, play Tomb Raider.

Anyway, back on topic, I was never really a fan of the Tomb Raider series until Crystal Dynamics took over. Both Legend and Anniversary were fantastic games. Underworld, eh, not so much. Even so, I'm glad Crystal Dynamics is still developing this new installment. I really appreciate the aesthetic, and the new gameplay elements sound very intriguing.

Of course, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't much rather see a new Legacy of Kain game instead. Ah well.

        Really? More combat?
Combat always sucked in Tomb Raider games. It's platforming and exploration that was always awesome in TR games and I think Underworld did a good job with minimizing combat aspect (but they of course just had to put that two stupid levels on Amanda's ship where Lara is running around and kills people) and focusing on platforming and environmental puzzles.
Looking at TR threads on NeoGAF more people think that way.

I meant for it to do well with mainstream media, to try and make it popular with the masses again.

I don't care either way if it focuses more on one or the other. The only Tomb Raider that really ever disappointed me was Angel of Darkness. After I finished it I realized how bad it really was. The music and story were pretty good, but the glitches and controls basically kill any desire to play through it again.

I want a balance of both. If the combat is fun and exciting, throw more action into the game. But don't make enemies everywhere in sight, neither should they be few and far between.

But the series has always had a lot of action. How many animals did she kill in TR 1? How about Italian Mercs in TR 2? The Tribes people of TR 3? The poor Arabian Ninjas in TR 4 ( ) ?

You can say they should get rid of combat, but then the game would not sell well at all. Like I said, it should be a balance of the two.

A balance of the two? Try this.
                    20% combat + 80% exploration = Profit.

Every tomb raider game has suffered from god awful combat systems.
Either reduce them or remove them completely and get back to fixing the core mechanics of the game to make it more appealing or completely remove that element of the game to make it a more enjoyable exploration experience. *or implement the environment so that she can make traps and use the world to stop her pursuers etc*

She's younger here - she's a teenager, just like she was in the prologue in Tomb Raider: TLR and that island chapter in TR5.

I'd love an exploration based game that didn't require you to read tons of text and didn't require you to stay in a room until you've got the right file.
