  • Manhunt

Well, I imported it from the UK about three weeks ago (it's banned in Australia), and finished it last night. Damn epic, if not slightly too difficult. Many segments took 20+ tries for me to finish. The executions were epic too. I loved the red "gruesome" chainsaw execution (where Cash shoves the chainsaw down the head and neck of the enemy)

Is Manhunt 2 just as good? I'll need to import the PSP version from the UK, just like with Manhunt. Damn, I hate the OFLC.

What did everyone else think of Manhunt?

I thought it was shit and the media cared about the game more than actual gamers.

I found the game pretty dull, actually. I only played a bit of it but it seemed like an excuse to do ever more grusome crap and blood and gore just aren't enough to create a game around. It's a bonus in a good game, certainly, but I honestly don't care if the game features the ability to cut an opponent with a knife and yank out there entrailers unless there's a really nice story to go with it, and the admittedly small bit of the story I saw didn't grab me at all. It played nicely enough though.

Manhunt 2 is pretty bad compared to 1, even 1 was only good in the early going, the gun play is incredibly broken.

I didn't think so. I saw screenies of the PS2 version, and the graphics are absolute shit compared to PC. PC is so much darker and more details, and even has actual shadows which the PS2 didn't display.

I dunno what's with the complaints about gunplay in MH1, I didn't have a problem with it apart from the inability to shoot people at long range.

Manhunt - A mediocre "stealth" game which sold many millions purely on controversy

            Thats my thought on it

PC graphics better than the PS2? Ridiculous.

not every company does shitty ps2 to pc ports like sourcenext did with RE4.... Manhunt was made by rockstar games, they also improved the graphics of the ps2 GTA titles that were ported to pc and as far as i know every PC gta looked better then the ps2 versions which is nothing so special due to the fact that you can have a much higher resolution than the 640x480 the ps2 had..

I liked Manhunt 1 & 2. These game had this psycho atmosphere that i loved from the beginning. I'm a big fan of the movie 8mm, and everyone who has seen the movie and played this game should have noticed that the developers are also big fans.. They even said this when they talked about the development of Manhunt.. and there are already plans for a third Manhunt.

i would second that, this game would have sold no single copy if there wouldn't have been the mainstream media trouble

I seriously doubt that. It was made by Rockstar games, a major games development company. Are you saying that GTA wouldn't sell anything if it wasn't for the controversy? Manhunt was a good game. Good games sell. It was reviewed positively by most critics (Metacritic source), and it had great gameplay, graphics, sound, voice acting, and most of all: story.

Don't say shit like that if you don't know what you're talking about.

I found it boring. Didn't find the story very interesting and thought it was just an excuse for senseless gore. The gameplay was alright but overall it was a pretty average game.

That's exactly right. The developers of GTA1 even said so themselves, if they hadn't had all the controversy the game wouldn't have done nearly as good as it did. That controversy has just stuck to their name, so anything made by them with a whiff of violence in it gets picked up because of it. Why do you think games like Table Tennis just slipped by unnoticed and went to the bargain shelves almost immediately? No violence, no controversy, no sale, even though it was a pretty well done game.

...there was a plot? I only played the first couple of scenes, but this was what I took from the plot:

The story was original, you can't deny that. So yes, you missed out on it because YOU and YOU ALONE bought it for the gore-factor.

GTA is a popular series because of it's great gameplay, among everything else. GTAIV was not very controversial, but it made $30 million on the first day in the UK alone. Everyone loves GTA because it's a diversion from the boring, tedious, montonous lifestyle we all lead.

Everyone loves GTA because it's the UK's stereotype of American gang culture just as Resident Evil is Japan's stereotype of gi joe cops. Fixed :-P
