I have the 1st on Xbox. i don't get scared on video games anymore, nor horror films. i think its a petty thing of the past. i beat the game on Fatal difficulty.
as for the 2nd one, i also played it on Xbox, i rented it. but i own the PS2 version and its factory sealed.
I have the first Fatal Frame game. It was very good, very scary and extremely atmospheric. I liked it. My only problem is sometimes the gameplay seems a little dull.
I might pick up the second Fatal Frame game sometime.

Did you notice some stereotypical Japanese horror elements? I think I picked some up.
For example, your main character is some small, cute Japanese girl that they seem to make appear a bit weak.
It is very typical for Japanese horror. On the other hand, it's also very good.
I own and have beaten all three, on multiple difficulties to get the funky secret endings. Fun games. I'm just foaming from the mouth because we aren't getting the fourth one, even though it was all set to come over. When I find the person who made this decision everyone will know because his corpse will be found choked to death with a camera.

Ah yes. It's slated for a Japan release only, right?
Well there's always...you know...
That thing...it starts with a "p", ends in "y". It's illegal and Dot hates it.
Pornograhy? Oh no. Dot loves porn. The things he has seen...
My wife is trying to convince me to get the Japanese version if we can work out a way to get my Wii working and it has the usual option for English voice acting and files. I'm busy trying to find out if this is doable. I should ask the lady over at Beyond the Camera's Lens. She'll know.
And yes, my wife desperately wants this game. God have mercy on the dumb bastard who stopped the English version if she catches him. Denying a heavily pregnant woman her horror fix? And people think I'm a sadistic lunatic...

Heh heh. Well I didn't mean that, but I'm sure it's possible to order from there.
Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Japanese games are region locked. You'll need a Japanese Wii to play it.
NTSC-J =/= NTSC
I personally think it's unnecessary. You already have NTSC. But it might have to do with the game being in, of course, Japanese.
You really need to play the first two to get the full impact of the third. Although the first and second are only loosely related the third links with them both quite closely.
I've found that the English stuff isn't on the Japanese disc, but there is a fan project to sub the game with English subtitles and replace the Japanese files with English ones.
And yeah, I know you need a Japanese Wii to play the games. There are a few ways around that, however.
