  • Happy Birthday Dear MOTHER

After 20 years, the MOTHER series has been through quite the equivalent of giving birth to a child and been through abortions and “prolonged pregnancies”* in its years. So I thought I would say Happy Birthday MOTHER, and thank you for giving birth to a new precedent in RPG storytelling. =)

*I’m using this phrase loosely OK? No technicalities please.

He means the game starring Ness, or Ninten in Japanese. Earthbound! Of course there was a game before that one.

Yeah, I take it nobody here knows the MOTHER/EarthBound series. =P

No no, I know it. Just never played it, unfortunately.

Earthbound's a stylistic achievement amidst pretty average RPG gameplay, and the latter quality barely hinders the fun. I would definitely recommend it.

I would also. It's a very good game, and the 16 bit proportions of it add a nostalgic touch to it.

Actually, I am quite aware of the MOTHER series. I went ahead and played through the GBA "MOTHER 1 + 2" port a few years back, and last year I went and played 3. Now then, I just need to go ahead and play 'em in English, and I'm amazed that I haven't yet.
But I do enjoy them, the Mother games have always had quite a bit of charm, and 3 especially was a blast to play considering how it almost never came to be.

I thought this thread was to do with Final Fantasy Advent Children
I have never played this game, what's the best title to pick up?

Best title to start with would be Mother 2/Earthbound. Mother 1 hasn't really aged well, at all, and is pretty boring to be honest. I'd say first play Earthbound, and then play Mother 3 afterwards (there's a fan translation of it online).
