  • xbox 360 hard drives

me and my friend are sharing a 360 and we decided to go in on a new drive, but we need the data transfer cable, which hard drives have this cable/.

Last time I checked, the 120gb harddrive comes with the data transfer cable for free.
I'm fairly sure that it's the 120gb harddrives and upwards that come with the DTC for free.

Of course, if you want to get a cheaper and/or smaller harddrive then you should be able to purchase a third-party DTC.

120gb drives come with a transfer cable.
Dunno if the 60gb "Starter kits" (or whatever they're called) come with them.

Alternatively, you could use an XSATA cable (or other type of cable that lets you access the drive from a PC), however, these aren't entirely fool proof, as some game saves (Rock Band comes to mind) will corrupt themselves if transferred, and a few games will detect that something's "different" about the drive since last time it was used (Capcom games says hi) if you use those types of methods.

I know that some communities (a certain thread on NeoGAF comes to mind) where people pass these cables around between users who need them to then return them or send them to someone else who needs it ('cause they for some reason didn't get one with their HDD)

When I moved from my Xbox 360 Pro edition to the RE5 Xbox 360 Elite I just bought a 512MB memory card and transferred it the old fashioned way and then I moved my licenses from the old hard drive to the new one through Xbox.com's license transfer website:

Use ^ that to move your DLC and XBLA games.

You essentially have to re-download everything, but you keep the licenses intact which means you can play it offline.

When I would play offline before I transferred the licenses and just copied over the games, the games would only show up as demo's so I had to be online in order for the games to see that I indeed had a license to play the full version... It's pretty easy to do, but if you're getting one with the DTC already in tote, then just stick with that.

I did it this way since I figured since I gave my old Pro model to my girlfriend, when I went to her house, I'd carry my Gamer Profile and multiplayer game saves on the memory unity. That way we could play games from where we left off and I could still play at my apartment when we werent together...

You should buy the IDE HDD hook up kit. I have a 1TB one hooked up to my XBOX 360.

It's an attachment that hooks to the top of your xbox and lets you snap in a IDE hdd. They are awesome.
