Yeah no bitching it may be crap compared to 1-3&K but ITS 2D DAMMIT!
Anyway downed the trial and did not like it at all! The controls were really sluggish and unresponsive he takes forever to get up to a jogging pace, he stopped several times mid loop, the camera is too close and the whole thing felt like a fanmade project on gamemaker or that damn "Somario" ROM. This felt more tedious than I found the most awkward parts of Sonic 1 as a pre-pubescent child. I also thought the auto homing attack made it feel like an interactive cutscene "Don't press right. Press jump twice and you're at that springboard"
Might have given it a second chance but I went and dusted off my Sonic Mega Collection on GCN and ended up playing Sonic 3&K until the credits.
I expected much better than this, and my expectation was cautiously low . . .sigpic

It's not 2d it's a 3d / 2d mishmash called 2.5d, the characters, enemys and objects are 3d, the backgrounds are pre-rendered 2d, it comes off as a cheap bastardisation.Last edited by kevstah2004; 10-16-2010, 12:09 AM.If he had a brain, he'd be dangerous.

Just beat the last level...man, Robotnik was a pain in the ass. Pretty difficult final boss. I went from over 50 lives to just over 30 just from fighting him. Pretty cool final boss, I have to say. I enjoyed it. He was tough to figure out but once you realized his patterns and knew where to hide on the screen, it was a much easier fight.
Now, to collect all the Chaos Emeralds. I only have 3 so far.

I love oldschool Sonic, and now that it's in 2.5D, I had to try it...
...but playing this game reminds me of beta-testing a product before it's final release. It sucks.
This game is full of bugs, shitty physics and fails utterly to recapture that nostalgic feeling that is Sonic the Hedgehog [on the Genesis/MegaDrive].
I can't believe Sega would release such a poorly developed game-it should have been more polished, before release. In my eyes, Sonic the Hedgehog died, along with his first appearance on the DreamCast.
And to those who think this is a '2D' game, do your homework; this game is ran in 3-dimensions from a sideview, thus, coining the term '2.5D' -- aka, not real 2D. Want real 2D? Play a real NES/SNES/GB/Genesis.
Ugh. There is simply no hope for Sonic's future. Sega, just do us all a favor, kill him off, tuck his likeness/franchise into one of your vaults, forget about it, and don't blame it on the fans -- you created this mess.I'm a blackstar.

Anyone else actually like Sonic Adventure? I got a Japanese DC very early on along with Sonic Adventure (and Virtua Fighter 3 ugh), it had its camera angle problems but at the time I thought it played really well and it did have its sense of speed (especially on the freeway levels). The A-Life VMU game was interesting, had to get used to the Japanese menus and went through a ton of batteries (thanks to this and the power stone games).

It's a shame that the only Sonic game I have bought since Sonic Adventure back in 1999, was Sonic 3D Flickies' Island for the Sega Saturn earlier this year.
It's quite fitting that the Sonic series died for me around the same time that Sonic the Comic did.
Still, the classics will never die and are the finest examples of 2D platforming in my eyes.

I dunno if it's because I never played the Sonic Adventure games or whatever, but I enjoy Sonic 4. I don't see what the difference is between 2D and "2.5D" because all I see is Sonic running from the left to the right on my screen, jumping on springs and collecting rings, just like old times. That's all I ask for.

Well now that I've found my monocle I will henceforth refer to this game as "2.5D", with that out the way it still plays crap . . .Last edited by Rancid Cheese; 10-19-2010, 05:45 PM.sigpic
