^ Except some people (like me) don't care for WRPGs. Fable is stupid and I just couldn't get into Fallout 3. It's bad enough that they're making level caps, but just... stay away from WRPGs. Also, yes, it will sell more than Fallout 3 and Mass Effect because it's Final Fantasy. Doesn't matter how good it is.

i get the best of both worlds, but jrpgs have been disappointing lately, which is why i took the jump. Oblivion is still probably the best RPG anyone could play this gen.

JRPG's to me are compared to WRPG's, completely linear and stale.
Haven't enjoyed a JRPG since Dragon Quest VIII, and before that Suikoden V.
FFXII was good because it tried something different, which unfortunately backfired on it self *cough*Fanboy complaints*/cough*.

FFXIII looks like typical bland Nomura designed cheese to me.
One has to wonder how he's remained main designer for the franchise since VII, then again, looking at most JRPG character design and choices, its clear that they probably like the same style choices over and over.

to me i liked final fantasy xii. i thought it was really good, despite i didn't beat it yet, but it did a lot of things differently, which made it sort of a fresh installment. i know a lot of people dislike FFXII for the war story.

Count me in. I never enjoyed WRPGs.

I have a FFXIII demo. And boy is it good. Trailers, even from PSN, don't do it justice in the least. Here are my impressions.

              CG
All CGs run at 1080p. CG's are so crystal clear and beatiful. The level of detail beats the crap out of Avatar. Scorpion-like robot(nice reference to FFVII 1st boss) in the intro CG is UNREALISTICALLY detailed. I mean it's insanely detailed... It's like real. My jaw was floored for 2 days after this. BEST CG EVER.

              Game
Runs at 1080p but the native resolution is about 800 or 900. It's definitely more then 720p. The level of environment detail is jaw dropping. You can see the smallest details of very far objects. All environments have a sense of DEPTH and distance, I have never seen in any game. Character models are awesome, and more detailed then Uncharted 2's. And thanks to White Engine(I guess) all characters and environments look like CG, just like they promised. Graphically it beats the crap out of Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 or MGS4 big time. Snow's level of skin detail is incredible. Each facial hair is rendered individually. Colours are stunning. On par with Uncharted 2 if not better. Fur effects on small chocobo are outstanding. This chocobo looks like a state of the art CG, but it's all ingame. This game has THE best clothes effects. I mean you FEEL the material, it lives. The whole game is like an interactive CG movie. It really is that good.

              Story
Don't know much... Demo is in Japanese.

              Desighn
FFVII + FFX. I liked it.

              Gameplay
Nothing really special, but it has that good pre-FFXII feel. You can rotate camera fully in battle, but no free character movement allowed. I mean if you liked all FF battle systems, you'll like this one too. It has little parts from all of em.

              Really jaw dropping stuff, visually.

It backfired on itself because, aside from a decent combat system and graphics, it completely and utterly failed in other areas. I play RPGs for the characters and the storyline and I failed to care for the characters in XII (apart from maybe like....Fran who had about ten minutes attributed to her storyline) and the story was....utterly lame. I couldn't even recall it from the top of my head. It just failed to be engaging at all, for me anyway.

But hey, it must of done something right because it got some insanely good reviews.

Don't mention FFXII... Worst FF ever.

Like I said above, it's Final Fantasy. It's gonna get good reviews regardless of the quality.

If you ask me, the Final Fantasy logo is not nearly as prominent as it should be.

Well it's a US box... to so that's to be expected (slap slap slap character art).

What annoys me is that I've seen the same box art with a PAL logo and PEGI rating around the web, which if real; breaks the nice tradition we've got going here of using the simplistic style of only having a blank white cover with the name + logo written on it (only exception to this here are some of the franchise spin-offs and the GBA/NDS ports 'n remakes post-Dawn of Souls, which all feature the FFXI Expansion Pack style of using logo + amano art)

It's symbolism. Squenix officially cares about what the characters look like more than they care about the series.

                            Zing?

okay? FFX and FFVII also had single character box arts. its nothing new, and those were created by Squaresoft.
