32gb FMVs, 1.5gb duplicate data, 260mb system update and 6.2gb of game
(In other words - The game could've likely fit on a single DVD, had it pulled everything off in realtime.)

3 should indeed be the magical number... at maximum. (Though, I bet it technically should be doable on 2, but that'd probably just look bad to them that their "massive" game only needs two discs.)

For a Final Fantasy last boss, it's going to be pretty hard to top sephiroth.
Every Final Boss after Sephiroth has been pretty lame.
Final Fantasy XIII is going to have changes that we all must come to eccept.
In my opinion there has never been a bad Final Fantasy game, so don't be worried how XIII will turn out. Also this is Square Enix we are talking about, the kings of RPGs.
I am hyped for March 9th, cause this is probly the most wanted title for the PS3.

I've never played a final fantasy game before because I dot like the style of gameplay they have. How e er the story has always interested me and the story to final fantasy XIII is lookig pretty damn good so I've decided to give it a try when it comes out. I just want to know if I need to play any of the older games before playing this one (I know you might not know for sure as it hasn't been released yet but if any one has any ideas about this I'd apreciate the info) innorder to understand this game?

You won't have to play any others, although I advise you do because, for the most part, they're very good games.
Each one is a stand alone (with the obvious exception of the odd direct sequel) so you'll have no problem following the storyline.
