Yeah, I read the thing about her hair on another forum too. But everything else seems to be great. I don't really factor graphics into how much I enjoy a game but I was a tad worried that it WOULD turn out like that screenshot and I'm very pleased that it hasn't.

I think it's impressive for the port to be almost on par, even with the compression they did in the cut scenes. All that I am waiting now is for the head of RPG site to write up his impressions via gaf. But everything is solid and looks crisp (I wish X World had their capture footage in full high-def) and I am pleased by this. Terrible PR disaster Square had in the past week though.

Here we go, we can put this to a close!
My apologies. It's hard to tell in this thread.
Having spent a few hours moving TVs to get both versions set up literally side-by-side in my house today, the 360 version seems to be slightly worse in the texture department (if the stories of the resolution are true, which I haven't confirmed yet, that's what is causing it) but that is it. It's no travesty, it's a really, really good port, and while the graphics look a little worse in places the performance is rock fucking solid.
The FMV is, as noted previously, slightly lower quality, but if I hadn't played the PS3 version before I doubt I'd have noticed.
So it's just slightly less textures then the PS3 version, due to the resolution it's most likely set (if true), where you wouldn't hardly notice unless you had both right next to each other and looked up close. I just find it amusing how bad those captures Square did with the PR and how bad they did. It totally looks nothing like that.
Thank god this case can close now.Last edited by Zombie Fred; 02-23-2010, 10:59 AM.

Drools, oh my god it looks so good
And the plot thickens!: Team Blur claim Final Fantasy XIII is actually 720p on 360?
We just got a message from Gavin Stevens of 'Team Blur' who is claiming that Final Fantasy is actually 720p on the Xbox 360. He seems to think that the original shots were taken from a bad video source hence the 576p res.
Here's what Gavin mailed in:
There’s been a lot of fuss recently over the resolution of the 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII being 576p, compared to the PS3 version being 720p. Well, the latest official shots from both SE and MS show clearly that the 360 version is indeed in 720p native, although I can't see any AA on them. In other words, it looks like the original idea that the 360 shots were taken either badly or from a video source at the wrong res seem to be pretty spot on.
The images the site's uploaded got the images due to the PR disaster so ignore the below ones.

I've just reserved my copy at gamestop and can't wait for the release. FF is my favorite RPG series no doubt. Should keep me busy for a while, hope its not a fail FF. I've played FF7,8,9,12 and Tactics. I've also played FF5 and 6 though didn't quite master the game but still beat it.Last edited by Guest; 02-23-2010, 10:27 PM.

I'm not trusting anyone on FFXIII stuff until it's out
Though, I can safely assure you the following regarding the previous batch of "not-faked" screenshots;
1. The PS3 version does not look like those supposed PS3 shots there. There's a significant lack of dithering in them. (Yes. The dithering is VERY noticeable and prominent in the PS3 version too)
2. The 360 shots have really odd brightness/color settings. Something that never would occur if they were captured with the neighborhood kit or via an HD capturing card on a standard setting (However, I can tell you that that is how a PS3 component image tends to turn out on some standard settings and that this is something plenty of comparison features on various sites also pick on in every PS3 comparison. As they often have a hard time deciding whether or not to actually adjust the original PS3 image or use default settings.)
Additionally, and unrelated to the screenshots;
Some sources claim the 360 version might actually run smoother than the PS3 version (The PS3 version has a very variable framerate, feat. plenty of noticeable frame drops. No words on how bad this is on the 360, beyond just a general heads up about it supposedly having less frame drops than its PS3 counterpart.)
Whether that is a product of the supposed downgraded textures some sources talk of, the lower resolution discovered by the latest image analyzes, faster loading of streamed data or something else is something we can only speculate about... for now, I suppose.Last edited by Carnivol; 02-23-2010, 10:44 PM.
