Ah Goldeneye, the classic game. Awesome in its time, still pretty awesome by todays standards. Not necessarily the Father of the FPS but it at least added a huge chunk to the genre, stepping away from kill everything and find the gold/silver door key (or Red/Blue/Yellow Keycards). Also, for me, the best movie/game adaptation I have played. But my first FPS was Wolfenstein 3D on an Apple Mac back in the day. Nothing compares to that.

Only problem with Goldeneye today is the graphics on a HD tv. Snes/Megadrive/N64/DC/PS2 all suck on a HD tv .

Goldeneye still shines where other modern FPSes don't these days. One of those areas is difficulty.

When you increased the difficulty, there were more added objectives, the A.I. got a bit more tactical and could aim better, etc.

In many instances where the difficulty is increased these days, all that's added is less health for yourself, or the enemies turn into tanks and do more damage and take more damage. That's it.

I was reading a G.I. article and a some guy who sent a letter in made a very good point about difficulty increases, and how all devs do are increase damage and resistance in enemies.

But at the same time, it's not easy at all the program and integrate different A.I. levels and stuff like that into different difficulties; most devs just don't want to bother with it all, which is shame, as it could make the game a whole lot more interesting to play on higher difficulties.

For all those singing Goldeneye's praises...how many have actually REALLY played it recently? I last played it two years ago and as with many retro games, it hasn't exactly aged well at all.

Goldeneye feels much more playable on single player than Perfect Dark currently does.

I played Perfect Dark on the Nintendo 64 a few weeks back and still plays fine, the same goes with Goldeneye.
