. . . (seriously, when the music always gives away the presence of threats... geeze... though, at some point everyone realized you could just turn the music off <3) . . .
I second this completely I just started playing the first one and that was really getting on my nerves plus the sounds the necromorphs make are creepier than the music anyway . . .
I'm a believer in the "establish firmly with the first effort, refine and polish with the second" formula for game sequels. Worked for Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill 2, Sonic 2, Perfect Dark (since I consider it a vast expansion of Goldeneye), Mortal Kombat II, etc. While it's obviously not a rule I hope Visceral approached Dead Space 2 with that perspective. Instead of doing new/different things just for the sake of it, they think of how to execute the best aspects of the first game.
Though I agree, if they're speaking of it going in a new direction, there wasn't much difference between this stuff and what you'd see in the first game. Perhaps that was the point for this fairly early look though.
I watched the new game footage on my Facebook page, and I have to say, I like the way this is turning out. It appears Isaac has some new toys (but also retains a good number of his original ones).
I'm really hoping it borrows about 75% from the original, but with more story. For sequels, I agree that the "refine and polish the first" method is essentially the way to go. It takes much from the original but betters it.
On another Dead Space related note, Hot Topic finally has their Dead Space shirt 50% off, so guess who ordered one! And I also got the hoodie from the Visceral website.
