Well, the Planet Cracker in the video looks to be damaged, although it's hard to judge. It seems unlikely another ship that looks like the Ishimura, badly damaged, is hovering above an area with a Necromorph outbreak. But we do know that the Ishimura was unique among the Planet Crackers. She was the first, and the largest of them. There's no way to be sure until we see another Planet Cracker class ship, but I would expect them to be different to the Ishimura in some ways given they chose change the size of the ships. They must have realized how to get the job done differently. This one matches the Ishimura's profile very, very closely.

But it is entirely possible I'm wrong, and this is a second Planet Cracker that's somehow been damaged during the battle for the Sprawl, maybe by a crashing escape ship. Or that I'm wrong about the apparent damage and she's perfectly fine. But my feeling, given that the Ishimura escaped Aegis relatively intact, was infested with Necromorphs, and looks very similar to the ship we now see above an infestation of Necromorphs is that they're one and the same, rather than two different ships.

We'll find out soon, I guess.

That's what I like about you, Jon. You can have a rational opinion on something like that but you aren't the type to write in to the Daily Mail about it and start generating moral panic.

Also, the fact that the ship is damaged lends some credence to your theory. Afterall, the Ishimura was struck in a collision with another vessel. I think it's important to clarify what we know so far - at the end of Dead Space, Aegis VII is destroyed yet the Ishimura survived and as far as we know she's in a stable orbit as our friendly neighbourhood engineer managed to repair a number of her vital systems, most importantly the propulsion systems. Jon informed me that in Extraction there's some character talk about there being a hive mind on board the Ishimura, though I'm unsure about this as I have yet to play the game myself. If this is the case then perhaps there's a more important reason why Extraction was re-released, and not just to cater to the couple of hundred people who own the Move. What if Extraction is more crucial to the story of Dead Space 2 than we realise?

If it is the case and there was another hive mind on the Ishimura, then it supports Jon's theory about the Ishimura being the cause of the outbreak on the Sprawl. The question remains, how did it get to the Sprawl? Already I have an amusing image in my head of the ship being crewed by necromorphs, each one acting like a normal human being, working in overalls and piloting the vessel towards Saturn under the control of the hive mind within the Ishimura. Also, on the website I noticed that the Ishimura was written off as destroyed in a terrorist attack, which simply screams of cover-up to me. I don't think we've seen the last of the Rapeship Ishimura, in fact I'm going to throw my support behind Darkmoon's theory, now watch it turn out to be complete bollocks and everything was actually caused by Cliff Richards, who is still alive in the 25th century.

      • Well, I just have a thing about kids in games or movies. Too often it's cheap attempt to tug at the parent in some of us, the idea that only true monsters kill children. And of course, this games gone a step futher than that.

But it makes complete sense, given the setting. There's no reason to think the Necromorphs would waste materials like that, and unlike say zombies where it's easy to say enough of a child is unlikely to remain after an attack to stop them rising as a zombie or there system can't handle it this makes a horrible sense.

I don't like it, but it fits perfectly.

As to the Hive Mind in extraction...that's what I, myself, read. I never finished Extraction, due to being shit at rail shooters. |Don't suppose anyone else has and can say for certain?

              • OXM review - 9.5 out of 10. they cite the game to have great horror and surprises, while also having a very lengthy single player. they gave the original Dead Space a 6.5.

                PSM3 also gave it a 92%

                • Sounds very promising so far, let's hope they stay at that level.

i wouldn't waste $60 on a game whether it was good or bad unless there was a good reason to. most of the games i bought last year were half their launch price.

                              • The only game that I bought at full price last year was Call of Duty: Black Ops.
