It's becoming more of an accessible process, from the looks of it. I blame the suits, they probably did a lot of irresponsible splicing, but we might find out later.
Excellent beginning, hopefully we'll get more Thing-like scenes such as that one.
Just a quick heads up. I'm in two minds about whether to get this or not. Played the first one, completed it, can't remember much about the plot, but what I do recall wasn't that great. I liked the atmosphere a lot but the game just seemed a bit repetitive as in go to one part of the ship fix something, go to another part of the ship, fix something else etc.
Is the second one much of an improvement at all? Is the story any good without giving anything away?
Think of it this way, you're in a city complex environment so among other things, that indicates:
1) The enemy frequency is more akin to the mid-to-latter chapters of the first game, especially if you're on Zealot (very hard) mode. I'm one difficulty below that and its still pretty tough and overwhelming, just entering chapter 4.
2) At the same time, there's a diversity of the types of people who live there, from scientists, to civvies, to unitologists. Different takes in the immediate environment on what's going on as the plot moves along.
3)To make a mostly empty but nonetheless valid comparison, think of it like RE2. It's less of a contained scenario and you're thrust right into it in the beginning. With such urgency you can expect a faster pace in general, but from what I've played there's still enough moments of uncomfortably static transitions between the scares or waves of enemies. In a lot of instances they fill it up with dialogue, but there's still those rest periods the first game has.
got my collector's edition and its no where near as good as the ultra limited edition of the first game. the only thing related to it, is its holographic foil box.
For what it's worth, IGN said in their review that while there's less backtracking than the first one, the structure still devolves into Isaac being told by someone else to "go here" and "get this" or "fix this."
I just finished reading Gamespot's review, and they say the exact same thing.

Yes, they're right, and it's not something that bothers me so much. For Dead Space 3 however, a change will be needed. Pretty damn urgently, such as a new main character.
sorry, i still can't get over how tiny it is. i literally stacked it side by side with the littlebigplanet 2 collector's edition and that's 3x the size of it for the same price.

Eh, I'm an old school RE fanboy. Back tracking doesn't both me in the slightest. And I have no issue with being bossed around, since it's likely a fairly linear playing experience. I wouldn't mind it being more open and explorer friendly, mind. I just doubt it is.
I just watched Downfall. Its not bad for what it is. I guess Extraction is the next order of business then. The question is, do I buy a cheap second hand copy on the Wii or play the free PS3 version with a control pad?
They made such a big deal about wanting to make Isaac more of a take charge kind of guy in this game, and yet he ends up still being a gofer for everyone else.
