(The kinesis alt-fire on the Ripper Blades were also perfect for baby murder, fat guy murder and mass-knee capping. Yet to try them in DS2)
I knew juggling between weapons was a bad idea the moment I collected the first Power Node and found out its functions. As a scared little puppy, I played with the Plasma Cutter for close to 1/3rd of the game until I met enough enemies to decide on the loadout. Except for the RIG and Stasis unit. which were the first that I upgraded. Its funny how, even though the weapons share very similar functions to those in "your usual games", you can still find your own niche. Either way, I discarded the Ripper for the Force Gun, which I used to kill off the weaker, swarming enemies and which became a loyal Benelli-alternative after I upgraded it. It literally felt like a regular, good old shotgun.

Different approaches to problemsolving, I guess.

Well, you had plenty of "clear the room so you can fix this in peace" and most first encounters with new monsters were pretty hectic. But I kinda feel the game lacked the "out of control" stuff. (Like, I was totally hoping for a gigantic boss ala. the cylinder boss in DS1 when I was overheating those huge gas tanks. Instead I just got some more run off the mill gorillas that I'd already fought a billion of.
True, even the "WHAT THE FUCK?" moment in chapter 7 wasnt as challenging when you figured out how to deal with "it". Perhaps its in their appearance or just size? Because the "Cylinder Boss" was quite easy, as was his second part. And all this build-up to the fight, all the logs and conversations that lead up to it, did make me feel dwarfed.
I started out by going for my DS1 setup, but ultimately dropped it for Force Gun, Plasma Cutter, Line Gun and Pulse Rifle. However, by the end I just sold the Pulse Rifle and Line Gun, followed by pimping the Force gun to the max. (Some bad investments and planning earlier resulted in me having to do some really creative juggling at times on Zealot, though )
I heard somewhere that the Force gun was nerfed, so I was too scared to try it. I did feel like the Contact Beams alternate fire made Force Gun redundant, though. Last fight was a breeze once you got it upgraded to max and special power unlocked.

BTW, as Ive digested the game, so to speak, there are quite a few things I didnt really like. One- the story. What the hell is it with the Markers going through midage crysis?

What do you mean by that? Anyway's Dead Space 2 was perfect for me, the weapons, the HOLY FUCK situations, and the UBERMORPH. The Ubermorph wasn't a necromorph in the traditional sense. I mean regular and irregular necromorphs are cut up, got contusions, and odd pieces of pulsating flesh on their bodies. No this thing was "perfect. It's like the necromorphs we're used to seeing are like some sort of incomplete version of the real deal being necromorphs like the Ubermorph (the boss before the true boss you meet after you get the achievement Cross your Heart, Hope to Die). I wonder who or what made the true marker being the black one?

      • In the sense that theres a significant difference between what Markers do and what they want to accomplish. The only thing they have in common is that they drive people insane and create Necros. Theres no consistency among them.

        • I guess the markers just trigger some sort of hivemind-ish behavior of sorts in people. The illusions and such effects on people are individual experiences triggered by the mind-fuckeroo of the markers... I suppose. (Note: I never bothered reading a single file in neither Dead Space 1 nor 2 and kinda paid little attention during audio logs and cutscenes... just basing this off of what I did pick up on.)

If they're even building up anything special in terms of an overall story, I guess it'd be about religious fanatics (and/or military) wanting to gain full control of a marker's ability to (forcefully) turn people (anyone) into brainless zealots (without free will or opinions of their own).

          • I can see it right now, Dead Space is fast becoming the next resident evil. Why? Because the voices say so! (if you dont get that than you need help)

                • Finally got my copy today - Up to the start of chapter 3
                  Spoiler:

Loved the intro of the game, some of the scenes I've played so far are pretty intense.

My copy says limited edition on it, and has a DLC code for Ignition, and the box says it includes Extraction. Anyone know how I can access this? Not complaining, I thought I'd only be getting DS2 (and it was only $48).

When you pop in the disk, go to the XMB and go to the "Game" section of the XMB and it should be under the "Dead Space 2" option it should say "Dead Space 2 extras". Click it and it should exit out of DS2 and it should show Extraction. But you can't just play Extraction. You have to install it like a PSN game.

Sorry if thats confusing but its 5:55am and I just got up.
