I finished the game a couple of days ago. For the most part I really enjoyed it. There are some cool moments, and Isaac talking didn't change the feeling of the game very much which I was worried it would. He was a bit too calm for my tastes...while he obviously has experience with Necromorphs he should still could have been less calm and rational sometimes. Know I would have been. Still, he non-verbally sounds panicked fairly often.
The new Necromorphs are all throughly unpleasant...in a good way. Even the Crawler, the one I dislike for my own reasons, fits the game and has it's own lovely little niche of death. I still don't like them, but the fit the mood of the game perfectly, as does the Pack. The Spitter and Puker are too close though...I didn't even realize they were seperate Necromorphs until I was wandering a wiki.
Thew new guns are also fun. Anyone who can deny nailing a Necromoprh to the wall with a Javelin and then eletrocuting him and all his friends needs to appreciate the small things in life. I haven't messed with most of the others much, preferring to stick with my tried and tested array of death on my first run, but I'll fiddle a little for my second.
I must admit, I'm not sure why some people found the pacing so bad. I thought it was pretty good. Much better than RE4 and RE5's 'All Action, ALL THE TIME!' approach. I like having calmer sections. It made the more action packed areas feel more exciting and special, something I felt was missing from the newer RE games. If I had a horde heading my way I was usually crapping myself, trying to find my Line Gun or Force Gun to clear them with, usually hitting a Pregnant that was wandering around and fuck! That kinda thing.
Also, as a side note - Capcom. If you intend to keep using Plagas as an enemy go to EA and beg like dogs for them to teach you how they did the Stalkers. Those are the creepiest fucking enemy in the whole world. As soon as a I saw a area with a ton of cover I whimpered and went to find a choke point to cower in. An enemy that actively runs away, goes into cover, uses ambush and at least seems to communicate is fucking terrifying after dealing with a bunch of charging lunatics. It's also exactly the way I've been saying Capcom should make the Plagas infected because they're supposed to be smart. That way, ten or so of the buggers would be a huge challenge, not a minor inconvience to be cleared with shotgun fire. Learn, Capcom. Learn or I will choke you like pencil necked bastards you are.
Anyway, the plot was about on par with the first game. I agree, some of the files were a waste of time and space. And the Markers just keep getting wierder. Apparently they do have a field that will stop Necromrophs, stopping there biology if the Marker moves into position and they can't move. Both Dead Space Martyr and some files confirm that. But on the two occasions we've encountered a Marker the Necromorphs seem to have no issue approaching. Once during the second game at the end, and the infamous scenes during the first. Plus, there are two sets of messages comming from the damned things...one saying 'Kill yourself and enjoy your new life as a Necromroph' and one seemingly trying to help people. One part of the Marker creates Necromoprhs, one part repells them. Essentially, it appears the Markers have two different forces and personalities at work within them. Or EA just have a schziophrenic writting team. Either way, it's intruiging. I wish to learn more.
Also - Fuck the Ishimura. If that thing escaped again I will nuke it somehow.
