It looks... meh. I was expecting something better than this.

Someone pointed out to me the arcade style points counter on the right hand side, which is where he's going for old-school replayablity given it doesn't have the MP support. This over the top, crazy thing is what seems to be taking more and more hold on games. Platinum itself is working towards this (look at the style and pacing between Madworld, Bayonetta, and this). Also stuff like Bulletstorm coming as well from Epic.

I will wait and see, there might be more to it than what this trailer is showing, but if not I'll be very surprised to see this sell very well and get reviews better than recommending it for more than a rental.

People have been describing both games differently which I'm not sure if it's a good thing or bad.

They are different things, but they pull relevent comments on the idea that they both look to provide a fast moving, stylish, arcade-like experience. The difference with Mikami's effort is that it keeps getting called "Gears like" - and mostly from this latest trailer, Gears meets Bayonetta. There is obviously some latitude when the creators of Gears themselves are making something which, while not in the same prospective, is still in a fast moving arcade style. I totally expect them to be different games, but it's still interesting to see that this maybe becoming a new trend in gaming.
