  • A couple of questions about Dino Crisis

(accidently posted this in the wrong forum, sorry about that)

Believe it or not, but I have never played Dino Crisis before. I have played through most of Dino Crisis 2 a long time ago, but I never really got into the first Dino Crisis. The last time I played Dino Crisis, I stopped very early in the game.

So last night, I started my playthrough of the game (I actually want to play through the whole game, and explore the areas), and I just passed the part where you have to choose which team member to follow (Gail and that other guy).

Now, my question is, what the hell is with the lack of ammo?

I'm playing the game on Normal, but it seems that every damn thing you pick up, it is a med pak of some sort. And then when you finally do get to pick up a box of shotgun rounds, all you get is 5, and it takes at least 4 to take out 1 dinosaur.

And how the hell do you determine what Regina's health is? I bought my game at GameStop, which of course came with no manual, and sure I could go on GameFAQs or Google it, but I was trying to see if I could figure it out on my own, but it isn't very obvious. No health meter anywhere, and the only way you can tell she is injured is if she is bleeding.

Anybody actually like this game? Judging from what I have played so far, I think the second one is better because of the pre-rendered backgrounds, a lot more ammo, and the second one just seems of higher quality. I don't care for the shitty 3D environments because of the choppy quality of them.

The only thing I can say for this game is the horror element seems present (which I like).

Yep, DC1 is hard at times, because you don't get much ammo in the beginning. I prefer it that way, you actually have to keep your head straight only to SURVIVE. You'll have to do some dodging, and make use of the An.Darts, you can't kill all the dinos right away (tip: mix to at least An.Dart M, the S is useless). Find out how to make poisonous darts to make the game a little easier near the end (won't spoil how for ya, but one of the items you have to mix is somewhat un-intuitive ).

As for the health, you'll have to look at how Regina walks. There's no health-o-meter or similar. Kewl! She doesn't necessarily bleed if she's injured, she can be near death but still not bleed. She can also be at almost full health, but bleeding = use hemostat. The medipacks don't cure bleeding, except for the Large Medpack which is all-powerful. I didn't like it at first, but I got used to it, and I think it's a nice touch. More "realistic"!

I like both games. DC1 is more of a slow survival-horror title with puzzles, while DC2 is a beautiful game with some more action, but still keeping it halfway rea.. I mean old-skewl RE.

Dino Crisis is a bitch to play and last time I remember I kept making poison darts to kill the dinos, can't remember the recipe. It makes you think more about fight and flight. Sometimes its better to just run or have a strategy.

I loved dino crisis, it has quite a few endings two with different versions of the boss fights which gives it some good replay value.
Ammo is short but i never really found this a problem, you can generally find some ammo stored in the different coloured storage units around the facility.
It's easier to dodge a lot of the earlier dinosaurs and try trapping them away from you with the electric gates, then save your ammo for the t rex encounters although you dont always neccesarily have to shoot him.

I haven't finished DC1, but I really like what I played. The lack of ammo makes the Dinos scary.

DC2 was a disappointment on the other hand. I was expecting a Resident Evil style survival horror game but got a Michael Bay movie. The game is very linear, the vehicle segment were annoying, ammo is practically infinite, and enemies constantly respawn. Not to mention the stupid ending.

But DC2 did give the world GIGANTOSAURUS!!!!1111!1

The only thing I agree on is that it's too linear. No multiple routes/ endings. It's a completely different game than DC1 of course, and I like it for that. All can't be the same. Now, if DC3 had been more of a natural progression from DC2 instead of being Teh Fuckupz...

I feel the opposite DC1 is dull and takes forever for the story to go anywhere while DC2 kicks ass with blood, guts, ammo and better story progression

I liked DC1, I played it through pretty quickly, although getting through the early parts was kind of a drag for me.

                I've yet to play 2.

Or 3 for that matter, but I hear that one blows to no end.
