    Three words.

Seems almost a cliched answer, but that's the reason a lot of devs give for not bothering with the PC market.

Again, piracy. Sometimes it's not worth the development costs to port something over when only a fraction of the people playing are actually paying. Steam is not the answer, it costs money to put games on there and they can be cracked and leaked just as easily.

Final Fantasy VII and VIII for PC are broken to the point where getting them to run properly without relying on external/fan-modifications is an art form of its own.

Not sure what the deal on FFVIII was, but FFVII was at least done by EIDOS (which of course now is Square-Enix Europe)

FFVII and VIII were awful ports.

Kind of Glad they stopped porting the series over, although I did play FFXI on PC as opposed to console.

FFVII required absurd amounts of system resources and relied on wonky standard midi soundfonts for music (but came with a synth/soundfont of its own, at least) (+I find it hilarious that the demos used WAVE streams for the music instead of midi, though.)

Only thing about FFVII PC is that it corrects a minor editing/translation mistake found in its English console cousin. (Regarding Tseng's fate after the temple of the ancients)

You say piracy, but afterall Square still released "Last Remnant" on PC, so why have they released a game with a new title (and, from what I've heard, the game itself was mediocre) and not an AAA title with established IP?

It was an Unreal Engine game. Minimal effort, and trying to gain some sort of a profit on the game as I dont think it sold well(?).

FFVII actually ran on a relatively modest system. I had a 400mhz (or so) Celeron based system, though I guess my TNT2 set it over the edge. Played though the game on that thing without issue. Some of the issues are crappy coding as related to CPU speed, as the motorcycle game and chocobo race speed up tons on modern systems (let alone other issues that have been patched out by fans pretty decently)

Yeah. The Last Remnant's U3 (and western focus) is what gave it a PC port (and also what led to the PS3 version's silent cancellation)

It's also one of the greatest games from S-E in like...forever, but it's severely broken... Unfortunately. Best battle system in ages. Also the most broken battle system I've seen in ages.
