  • WARNING: PSN Issues Feb. 28th : Resolved

WARNING: Don't try logging into PSN right now.

A wide rash of game-crashing errors is spreading among the PS3-owning community at the moment, most of which can be chalked up to a 8001050F error code. This has led to a variety of unfortunate side-effects for those affected, including corrupted trophy information and an inability to access the PSN. When combined, those two issues prevent players from launching certain games, such as Heavy Rain, without being kicked back to the XMB.

Find in-depth gaming news and hands-on reviews of the latest video games, video consoles and accessories.

I was playing Modern Warfare 2 and not experiencing any errors, but read this online and decided to warn everyone. Looks like there's issues with PSN as everywhere I'm reading says that people can't log-in or even play single-player games. In extreme circumstances, people's data and trophies are getting corrupted.

I just tried to log-in on my own and got the same error code: 8001050F. People on Twitter are saying the problem is worldwide.

EDIT: Wondering out loud if this has anything to do with the newly re-designed(once again) PlayStation website:
Join PlayStation Plus on an Essential, Extra or Premium membership plan and get hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games, online multiplayer, classics catalog, exclusive discounts and more.

How the hell can trophies be corrupted? Oh well not my problem because I dont have internet for the PS3 atm. Though thanks for the warning I'll have to warn my friend.

      More on the issue:

For one, it seems to be affecting the “fat” and older PlayStation 3 consoles and not the Slims. And then there are the symptoms which include:

      * Corrupted Dynamic themes
      * Error code 8001050F which means “Hardware Failure”
      * Inability to launch games with Trophy support
      * Inability to utilize purchased downloadable content

This seems to be more than a simple login issue since many of these games can be played if you logged out of PSN normally. So what’s going on here? Clearly, this is unacceptable, but it is an interesting problem.

Attention all you PlayStation gamers – an unconfirmed but seemingly widespread PlayStation Network (PSN) error is affecting games.

Booting up even a single player game nets PSN Error Code: 8001050F for some users. It looks like it could be tied to trophies, as in my case Darksiders wouldn’t boot because it couldn’t register trophy data. The only option the game gives is to quit. According to gamers at PlayStation Universe, themes aren’t working either. It’s pretty bad news for games trying to get a little game time in – especially with this the first weekend since Heavy Rain’s release.

Users on the forum are reporting a range of issues from inability to play to random date changes on the console. There’s even speculation DLC, themes and trophies could get corrupted. But again, I stress this is completely unconfirmed and we’re unsure how widespread it is. All I can say first hand is there are definite trophy syncing issues.

      EDIT: Sony responds!

We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.

I am experiencing this. Funny, I was about to ask WTF!? Does this possibly mean I won't ever be able to log back in short of getting a new PS3? Just my luck.

...what in anything that I posted would make you think that?

So, I shouldn't play Heavy Rain when I get it tomorrow? Fuck.

Hopefully the issue will be fixed by then.

Now Kotaku's picked up on it: http://kotaku.com/5482328/

EDIT: Wellll, this is certainly interesting:

get flash and/or enable javascript and stop wasting my time.

              Hax?!

Glad I saw this...but the PS website is working for me now. It formally would say Dearplaystation something and then the "hacked" message.

The site still isn't working for me.

Also, a friend who has a PS3 Slim is accessing the PSN and has no issues whatsoever. Seems like the problem lies with the "phat" PS3's.

                      Great.

EDIT: Now I can get to us.playstation.com for a few seconds before it says "Problem loading page."

So is this some sort of incompatibility issue with the old PS3 OS? Is that what people are speculating?

I turned on my PS3 to watch "Inglorious Basterds" awhile ago and it worked fine, but I just noticed that my time/date was set to 1999. Ha ha. I guess the only problems involve games...

I wasn't signed in to the PSN when I booted the system. How did it know to reset the time/date?

EDIT: Just now tried signing in, and got the same standard error message as most others.

I've heard speculation that it's due to Feb 28th -> to March 1st. Even though it's not a leap year, people think this may be why the PS3s have been resetting dates.

I haven't turned mine on yet (incase the data corruption thing is true. I couldn't care less about trophies), but I'm expecting to get AVP later on today. Hopefully this is fixed soon, and when I come home I can play.

I don't seem to have any problems. I have an older phat model.
